Re: The Invaders on DVD
Oh....my....god!
I just finished watching the first disk from Netflix.com last night.... I need to start off by saying that I've not seen this show since it originally aired and then only the few times that my dad would let me stay up and watch it with him. I remember Dominic Frontiere's music for the show and how it used to creep me out at the age of seven. I also was just dumbstruck when the Invaders died and vaporized.
The opening sequence of David Vincent being all alone on a dark road and seeing a spaceship landing always gave me the willies and in a way it still does. One of the best bits was watching the unbroadcast series pilot. It was interesting to see how the whole story started (even if I had seen it back then, I wouldn't have remembered it). The oddest thing about the pilot is that it still had music by Dominic Frontiere, but the pilot used the music he did for the early 60's version of The Outer Limits.
Seeing actors like Roddy McDowall, Suzanne Pleshette, etc. was quite a treat. I love seeing actors in their prime. The show was well acted and didn't look hokey even though it was produced in the late 60's. If it weren't for the clothes and lack of modern gadgetry, I think that the concept still works.
Now, don't get me started on the SciFi Channel telemovie done about 10 years ago. I watched it, but I didn't get the same feeling that I get from the original.
I think that this series is very cool and I can't wait to see the next disk on Friday!
