Default SPOILER - DeSanto's Centurion on the Forbidden Show

Don't know how many caught it but on GINO last Friday, the misfits pulled out a helmet of a DeSanto Cylon from the ruins of what's supposed to be Earth.

That means that somewhere in Canada there's a mold for such a thing and possibly the rest of the suit given that there were pieces of it all over the place. Its possible that a DeSanto centurion will appear somewhere in the next nine episodes. Although we all have varying opinions of the writing, the technical aspects of the episode in question were quite good and the helmet looked fairly impressive (to me anyway).

If anyone wants to catch the repeat, you can get the DeSanto fragment in the first 15 minutes.

All my best,

Russell

Yes, ... sorta, but for respect for the board, I made this ENTIRELY a DeSanto design sighting thread not a slam-GINO posting.

Just focusing on the technical showpiece. Although I honestly first reacted with "Hey, now Ron's stolen Tom DeSanto's centurion design as well", I quickly had to admit that it was done with a lot more quality than the semi-revised original series centurions in Razor, which I thought was a big step down quality-wise given the other aspects in the series. The CG in Razor really wasn't that good in my opinion. This was an actual prop which made it stand out a lot more.

Sandy -

I saw that episode as well and I thought that the Cylon head looked a bit odd in shape, but somehow familiar. I don't have it on tape or anything, but I wouldn't be surprised if you were right. The idea of creating a different style Cylon head for one brief moment in a scene doesn't sound very practical. I wonder where it came from?

Sandy -

Isn't that one of the Guastini Cylon concept designs?

I'm pretty sure its this guy:

That's not the Guastini design but the Global Effects centurion.

The GINO version of the DeSanto design has a top of the head that's more like a sleestack, which ironically makes the thing look more reptillian than the other versions. The GINO centurion is more bug-like. I couldn't guess how they're trying to make these designs work together. From a production design aspect, GINO has always seemed like they took everything and just threw it in a blender so I don't figure there's ever going to be much reasoning behind what is essentially three distinctively different centurion designs in the series, although by really stretching the imagination, the GINO centurion can follow from the classic design with the Razor design as a semi-logical intermediary.

I wouldn't mind seeing some full animations of this one but based on the storyline, I doubt that's going to happen.

Throughout the 3rd and 4th season, I was pretty impressed with how they animated the centurions. The first two years were pretty rough but when they got thier act together, they really seemed to do a good job with them.

All my best,

Russell
