This will be a bit more meaningful around Christmas time.

Just as long as it's not along the lines of the Star Wars Christmas Special!

Thanks Ernie,

The planet looks stretched because this is rendered for a video animation, whose pixel aspect is different than the computer. For those that care, I render most of the TV video shots at NTSC D1 x 200% and then resize them via photoshop with a macro that adjusts the image sequence. This causes the shots to look a lot more clear on my television but it also really cranks up the render times.

I was working on "the project" this morning. Its a bit behind schedule but overall its developing nicely. Its still too early for a real unveiling so I'll simply limit it to something like:

"This December - Coming to a speaker near you!"

As I said, come Jan, this image will make a lot more sense.

Hmm. I got a similar error. It tried to play in WM Player but, an error message said that the file format was not supported.

Does this mean that we have to wait for Christmas?

All I get is a blank screen.....

It should be a fairly standard Quicktime format. It might use MPEG-4 compression.

What is the CF standard video format anyway?

Quicktime? That explains it for me.

I got rid of Quicktime on my PC. It was dropping a routine in my Startup file and would activate every time that I booted the machine, after viewing something in QT. I had to frequently update the startup list in MSConfig, to remove it from starting. I'll have to check with Darrell about the video format - both WMP and QT should be usable.

Great Video !

Works fine for me, I downloaded it, the click on the file and it opened in Quicktime, and played fine. I am a Windows XP user.

Sandy - which program did you use to animate the picture and how long did it take you ?

Great to see another test sequence from you......was it another attempt to buy you and your closet more time ?

ernie -

I did the same thing, but I got an error message from Quicktime similar to the ones others got when I tried to play it.

I also just tried double-clicking on the link. I got a screen to come up and the scroll bar showed that it was playing, but I only got a blank screen.

One difference though, I have Windows 98, not XP.

Best,
Bryan

I re-encoded the video with Sorrenson 3 which is very standard with most systems. Its still Quicktime so you have to have a way to play that. I played the link with Internet Explorer and it seemed to work fine. If someone else can check it, I'd appreciate it. The new file is located at:

http://allgalactica.com/hold/raid-cylon-01b.mov

... its a little over 2 megs.

This thing took a very frustrating evening to put together because the outer atmosphere glow wouldn't cooperate. I still can't seem to get it right. It seems that every freaking Lightwave user in the entire world can get that right except for me. If anyone is good at creating these, PLEASE contact me.

Setting aside my glow incompentence, the shot took about two hours of keyboard work and about five to six of actual rendering. On my system, Lightwave uses up only 50% of my CPU resources so I generally fire up another copy of Lightwave and render the first half of the shot with the first program instance and the second half with the other.

This raider model is a pig with resources. I really like how it looks overall but I made all kinds of mistakes when I rebuilt it from the stock model and they still haunt me everytime I hit F10. If I had done the model properly, I'm sure I could crank these out in about four hours from start to finish.

Sandy

P.S. This video is likely a replacement for my diving into the closet archives. I probably won't do that until I'm ready to really work the shots into something. At best, that's a post-Dec event.

I tried to open this file playing it in my browser (IE) and it crashed the browser window all 3 times. I would recommend Right-Click then 'Save Traget As' and download it to your Hard Drive. It works fine from there, although you will need to download Quicktime Player to view it. Available freely from www.quicktime.com

Sandy has an increible talent, and this test sequences is very his quality....one hopes one day he'll release a fanfilm....but until then we'll have to content ourselves, with what sounds like its going to be a stunning audio adventure......

Thanks for the compliment. Regarding the video, I'm not sure what to say.

I opened it up in IE6 and it worked just fine.

That tells me that its a codec issue not a browser issue.

Using "save as" and then opening it should fix this problem. In the future, I'll try to get a better format for videos.

... just what is the CF accepted video presentation format, anyway?
