A BSG Animation
So assuming there ever IS a BSG animation, what kind of things would you most like, and most like NOT to see in it?
Ive listed a couple things that I would like, and not like to see.
Likes:
Good romance scenes, nothing steamy, but more than just "Hey how ya doing?"
All or most of the origional characters
The origional Vipers and maybe a few new ships
More shots of the fleet, more idea of the size and the variety of ships
More history of the colonies before the attack, maybe set it a bit before the attack
More about life as a refugee, whats it like in those container ships?
Not Likes:
No cute little furry things
No kids who would acompany said cute little furry things
No moronic plot lines that leave a fan wondering what they just saw
No material that I would feel embarassed about having on TV if my mom was there
and finally, no stock footage just reused to death!

Pretty much agree with you there Tabitha.
My biggest fear would be the cute fuzzy stuff! It would need to be more Hellsing or Batman Dark Night than the Power Puff Girls or Kim Possible. (Even though I like Kim Possible.)

Tabbi,
Nice thread. Thank you for starting it.....another fine contribution towards the postive moving forwards to a Continuation I'm hoping will come into being...
You say original vipers.......this is the one that I would, surprising, let go. I liked the TNS vipers, many people did, and an evolution of the viper is likely to have happened over time anway.
You mentioned setting it before the attack on the Colonies - a computer game has already explored this era. I strongly feel a new animation(or live action) effort must move forward. I know SW and ST have been doing Prequels...but I think we need to move forward...
Aside from that, I agree with your points. Cool thread..........

In some ways animation is much harder to pull off than live action. You can really foul things up; when you get the basics wrong. Example ST/TAS

When Larry Niven's Known Space mythos was grafted onto Star Trek(TM) it was an embarassment.
Just my $0.02.

I have no objection to see children or Daggits.....in the background. I think it would actually be a good thing as it would show life happening behind the main plot lines.
Just not too many 'child' lead plotlines. I've seen too many. Boxey, Jake Sisko, Anakin in Ep1 etc etc. I suppose the occasional one is OK in the long term, but when I see Thunderbirds......ohhh never mind....

You know, I can think of a few more to add to this list, but I more curious to know if this has ever worked? Having a kid running around a sci-fi show is almost a staple in the genre and I want to know why? Who got it right and made everyone else so desperate to recreate the magic? Was it Lost in Space?

Child Plotlines
Sometimes, I think that I am led to believe that in order to be a family friendly show, there needs to be children . . .
It seems that most of the Sci-fi genre children are created by how children were protrayed in westerns. The description Glen Larson and Richard Hatch use for Lost Warrior fit this perfectly . . . "sort of a SHANE type theme with a little bit of High Noon thrown in for good measure. . . " Boxey always seemed to be the type of character that always looked up to the Gunfighter character (Apollo or Starbuck). IMO, its either that, or they actually are trying to put "Eight is Enough" or "My Three Sons" in space.
I could be wrong, but thats what my experience tells me. On of my favorite Sci-Fi children characters is Lewis from "The Last Starfighter". I especially liked the scene where the real Alex and the clone Alex both catch Lewis looking at Playboy magazines . . .
Real Alex: Go back to sleep Lewis or I'm tellin mom about the playboys . . .
(real Alex closes door as he leaves)
(Clone Alex makes a comment after real Alex leaves)
(Lewis sneaks a peak at the clone Alex at the desk table in his room)
Lewis: What the s--t!
Clone Alex: I said, Go back to sleep Lewis or I'm tellin mom about the playboys . . .
