Lightbulb Who has the rights to do a radio drama?

:light: I love Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy! It was only done justice in radio format. If the rights are open and if the original cast is willing to voice it, why not have a Battlestar Galactica continuation radio drama? I wouldn't be too high budgeted I wouldn't think so maybe we could raise the money ourselves like Tag did and get our continuation this way!

Who knows what will happen afterward. Maybe people will finally see how serious we are and something better might spring up from this?

Yes I remember Radio Galactica doing something with fans and voice excerpts, but I'm talking about professionally written scripts with the ACTUAL stars recording along with possible new characters who have done voice work before, so that this is taken seriously and not just another fan work.

I think Battlestar Galactica audio adventures are a great idea. Star Trek fans have been expanding the Trek universe for a while now. It's time Galactica Fans take up the challenge. Using Sound effects and music cues from the original series, the audio version would be a blast! The beauty of it is that Adama, Kane and Baltar could live again!

You will need a license from Universal, they hold the rights, unless they let Glen Larson have them.

Thumbs up

Still, seems like a great idea. Why couldn't the author of, say, Die, Chameleon! do an audio book? Test the waters or something like that.

A friend and reformed Trekker loves the audio books George Takei narrated.

As the owner of several radio series on CD, I like the audio format. Keeps the imagination working, instead of being shown everything...

Like I said, great idea...

Regards,

GA

The Return of a Hero took about 8 months to do and had a lot of talented people working on it. It seems just like yesterday but I guess that's because time flies when your having fun. It's close to 1 hour and a half long and I plan on adding to it with single episodes in the future.

I even have a story line in mind that explains why the 13th tribe left cobol and it all ties in but I'm affraid it will be another year or so before I get around to it. I'm right in the middle of producing a CD and I'm also promoting the latest one my band put out so my plate is once again full but I will get around to it.

I think an audio with the original cast would be cool but I can't see universal going for it.
Not to long ago they turned down Tom Desanto who looked into doing a cartoon continuation so if Universal is that Scared $hitless over having any other kind of new Galactica that contradicts their new version and stays true to the original, then I can't see them giving the OK to a profesional audio based on the original. They might think that they would lose money even though the sales on the DVD box sets would prove otherwise and the Audio version of a new story would sell like hot cakes.

I'm only guessing at all of this but I think for now we are limited to what the fans do but that's not really bad. When it comes to Acting and Writting to name a few things that it takes to do an audio version, there is a lot of talent fans here on these boards and I imagine by the time I get around to adding to the return of a hero, there could be other stories already done.

I also have another great story on the back burner that belongs to Repcisg. The audio for his story is for the most part done but with such a great Idea, it should be added on first before released. Maybe we can get around to that too, right Rob.

How about we see how much they want for the rights and buy them from universal? On something such as a radio drama they couldn't want too much. If we pool our money together as we did with CFF, we could actually OWN part of BSG! We could get a continuation starting where the series left off! It could be a one time special or a radio serial! If we could get Tom DeSanto interested we could have a very interesting continuation!

Hey Sean, great to hear from you!

Bravis is ready to when you are.

I'm working on converting TOS's background to fit the EDF/ETLF universe Jal's journal is building the base for it. The basics are almost done.

We can go either way! BSG(fan based) or EDF (comercial).

Star Wars fans have been doing audio dramas for a few years now. If anyone has checked out www.starwarsfanworks.com, they'll know what I mean. Has anyone ever heard the Star Wars Trilogy radio dramas? The story behind the radio dramas was that George Lucas sold KUSC-FM(in LA) the story rights to his trilogy for the sum of one dollar. Of course, this was back in 1980-81. The audio dramas were basically the films retold with much more backstory, the original music, and sound effects. Great stuff. If audio dramas(either fan produced or professionally produced) for SW can be done, then why not BSG? Either a prequel or a continuation could be done. Maybe the continuation could even be a "re-imagining" of Galactica:1980? Sorry, couldn't help myself. Maybe NPR should jump on this?
