Battlestar Galactica: The A to Z of Fantasy TV Themes
Was thinking about picking up a copy and wonder if the customer reviews are accurate or not.

I'd get this, without a second thought. Orchestral scores, like these, are always a step-up!

Try going to the CDNow website - they usually have sample tracks that you can listen to online. I like to use that website when I'm thinking about buying something.
Best,

I have seen this product at Barnes and Noble. You can listen to it and sample most of what is on there. The BG themes are familiar with the opening score mixed with Adama's theme on Caprica.

Personally, I mainly try to avoid re-recordings of orchestral movie & TV scores, as some don't have the same impact as the originals, but if you can get your hands on them, try to find the John Williams/Boston Pops recordings (vinyl or CD) from the early 80's (some tracks may have also found their way onto compilations - eg 'The No.1 Sci-Fi Album').
Two sci-fi LPs were released - 'Pops In Space' & 'Out Of This World' (the second of which contains a good version of Battlestar Galactica)
Henry Mancini, Maynard Ferguson, and Giorgio Moroder have also recorded their own versions (semi-orchestral) of the Galactica theme (trivia note! - The Ferguson version can be heard in the background on the DVD deleted scenes of 'War Of The Gods' - during the Rising Star celebration scenes!)
