Lost In Space Season 2 DVDs
Volume 1 of this planned two volume set for Season 2 came out yesterday and it looks like Fox, after getting complaints over not remastering Season 1, went the extra mile at least and produced a very brilliant looking set. This compensates for the annoyance felt by most over their decision to release this in two sets rather than one.
Fox's committment to vintage TV has long been suspect, given how they abandoned "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" after just one season was released so the more people that buy the LIS set, the more they might get Fox to think harder about releasing some other vintage classics (the other Irwin Allen series' come to mind).

I hope for volumn 2 they include some extras. I was disappointed that this was a bare bones release. I would love to see the Lost in Space Cartoon episode that was produced in the 70s. It featured the voice of Jonathan Harris as the one and only Dr. Smith. I would love to get Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea on DVD. I love that show!

Eric -
Thanks for the reminder....! I saw the new set in the Sunday ads and let it slip. I know where I'm headed tomorrow! I love the first few episodes of Season 2 - the Jupiter 2 returns to space!.....until it crashlands on another planet again. The first episode in Series 2 "Blast Off Into Space" has one of the best SFX sequences the entire series has to offer. The planet the Robinsons have been stranded on is about to destroy itself - the Jupiter 2 attempts to lift off while the planet begins to fall apart. It really is quite an achievement when it comes to miniature effects for a television show being done in 1966!
I can't wait to see this in remastered color...
Best,
Bryan

I believe that for Volume 2, one audio extra is planned that is some vintage record of cast interviews that was done at the time of the series, but my memory is rusty on the details.
I'm halfway through this set now and it was indeed nice to see them get off the planet in the first episode (though some reflection about all the civilizations and aliens they encountered in many Season 1 episodes now being destroyed might have been in order!) and I also liked "The Prisoners Of Space" with its flashbacks to the first few episodes (the best of the series) which at least showed they hadn't forgotten that Smith started out as a very nasty saboteur.

A good point, since continuity was never an Irwin Allen strong suit. You're right, EP, if enough people get this set, maybe they will finally do the right thing by the fans.

Just goes to show that CGI isn't the be all and end all of effects. I remember those shots, Gemini, and they still look damn good after almost 40 years.

I got through the rest of the set and this was really the first time I had ever watched all of these Season 2 episodes in order. And boy, can you really see the quality of this show in general go downhill rapidly! The high point of the season is episode #5 "The Prisoners Of Space" and after that it's all downhill into idiocy.
