Noir is one of my favorite Animes. I enjoyed its music and story immensly. Great character designs and incredible choreography.
So when Madlax was announced, I was very excited to hear that the same director and composer would be working on this. And the advanced drawings look wonderfully Noirish. And it had another dark conspiracy.
OH WHAT A LET DOWN!
The story is...HORRIBLE. Its puke! Its leftovers from leftovers! Stuff the dog won't eat!
This is one of the most incompetently executed stories I have ever seen executed.
The story involves a female mercenary in a war torn third country. Her codename is Madlax. And when the story is her fighting off people, this is a fun anime to watch. There is also a young female socialite named Margaret Burton. She and her friends are nicely designed and very likable. The problem is that the story linking these two is horrible and horribly executed.
The main characters don't even meet each other till episode 18. And that's when the story really starts. Episode 18 of a 26 episode series. Sure there are things that occur before that point. But the links to the plot are weak. And I was dying for any sign of a plot to show up!
I dunno.... this could have made a cool 6 episode OAV. But its lousy when it tries to entertain you for 13 hours. I get the feeling that the writer and director were only half there. As if they were busy on another project and didn't have time to flesh out Madlax. It feels like a program you buy that was never beta tested to get out the kinks cause deadlines were more important than quality.
If you see Madlax, avoid it at all costs!!!!!!
