Benedict Back in Galactica?
I have been holding off on this news item, BUT people have been making guesses as to who the TOS actor is for Episode 13 of the new BSG.
Well, rumor has it it's Dirk.
He won't be reprising the role of Starbuck (obviously) or Starbuck's dad or even one of the Galactica crew.
Rather, he might be playing an omnipotent being, possibly god, in the Episode 13 cliffhanger.
More details will be forthcoming as they are relayed to me.

Some fans already Dirk is God, so it wouldn't be a stretch.

Maybe so.
At the least, I am not jumping on this bandwagon.
But, I would not reflexively discount this from the realm of the possible.
Seems unlikely given statments from DB.
Just like statments from RH indicated it would be highly unlikely that he would participate.
I have seen a few good posts from diehard fans stating that they wouldn't take it too hard if DB were to participate. I think that is a healty attitude to keep.
I suppose that some fans would feel betrayed if it turned out to be true, and I think that is sad. I don't fully appreciate that sentiment, as I do not stand on the ground that hopes DB doesn't grace the new production.

In case someone missed the discussion that was already in progress in the News section.... Tracy has already said that this rumor isn't worth anyone's time:
http://www.colonialfleets.com/forums...22&postcount=3
I'll believe her before I believe anyone else's "sources" or speculation. That, or unless DB makes his own announcement...
Crap, pure crap.....!
Marley - I'm kind of surprised.....you're usually someone that is very "fact oriented", or at least someone who researches things thouroughly before taking someone else's word. Are we slipping a bit? Hmmm?

I understand.
As stated, I am not jumping on this bandwagon.
As for Tracy's comments, I give it certain weight. I certainly do not think she would lie about this, but if it were true, there might be other reasons that such a thing might not be revealed.
I advocate a cautious optimism for those that are excited by the idea, and cautious pessimism for those that are offended by the idea.
Either way, in a few months, we can all objectively evaluate the veracity of KR's rumors.
That caution is part of my "fact oriented" approach.

As I've stated on some other posts, and of course this is all pure speculation, perhaps RDM wants to reintroduce the Beings of Light in the cliffhanger. He has stated that he would like to redo that storyline.
That explains why god/Dirk is inserted into the plot.

I feel compelled to comment that I won't dignify this rumor with a comment.
While not completely outside the realm of possibility, I can't give much credence to this rumor without some credible corroboration - and that's something we just don't have.
So I'm not going to discuss it.
My attitude about the possibility is the same as when we were discussing Richard's situation: more power to him if it's something he wants to do - stunt casting aside.

Well I will comment from my perspective. These actors can do anything they want, far be it from me to tell them what to do with their professional lives, BUT...
it will not change a thing toward my view of the mini and the new series. Richard is now in it and I will not be watching. Dirk may be in it and I still will not be watching...

Well... as long as we are believing RUMORS.....Bonnie Hammer has decided to give up her position as Scifi VP of programming for a new role in Moore's Galactica.
Rumors has it she is somehow connected to Kara Thrace. Actually she used to be connected. As a Saimese twin.
Rumor has it......
That's what I hate about fanbases. They go shark frenzy over rumors and treat it lke fact. And they argue and get into arguments over these "facts". Like the insanely heated arguments over the miniseries getting a GO for a series.
And I can tell ya, that's the big thing that make the fanbase look stupid to the big guys. Cause they know the truth. And we look like idiots.
And then fans say the big guys have to listen to what the FANS say?

This really makes me miss Slide'r' posts so much.
We really need some input from his source "Deep Trash" on this rumor.
I wonder if he left his PM to notify by email?

Tom -
I have one question - Can your sources confirm this or not....? I'm tellin' ya - we need a "Rumor Has It" section to the forum, so folks can decide if they want to bother to read and discuss this felgercarb or not. It's hardly news if there aren't any facts to back it up and it isn't a discussion unless there is something to actually discuss. Otherwise, it's just a waste of keystrokes and time....
I, for one, would like to say that if there is news about TNS, it's a bit dissappointing that the best that folks can get is rumors. I wouldn't mind hearing some actual news pieces or seeing some new production stuff.
Hey, I've got one.... There's a rumor going around that there's gonna be a BSG continuation film announcement to coincide with the release of the CFF ads. Don't you think it's odd, that they picked that particular month to do it???
You can see how if someone says "I heard something" and spreads it around, what the result could be....
Best to all,
Bryan

"Rumor" tells you right away to take it with a grain of salt, or a few beers as the case may be.
All will be made plain in time.
I think everyone can understand that if there is a good source, he would want to protect it.
And, if it turns out that this is bogus, there is always the "ignore" function.

LOL! Yes! I heard that rumor too! And just a few seconds ago! Its an AMAZING COINCIDENCE! It MUST BE TRUE!
Oh that is silly. But worth a good laugh! Sure why not. Though we may be making our own Frankenstein that we can't control.
Regarding rumors, its free speech to go nuts over a rumor we like ...or hate... And people like free speech. But at the same time we tend to look a little ridiculous.
Its just ironic how often the fans DEMAND that they be listened to. But then there are so many instances where people yell and pound there keyboards over facts that later prove ephemeral. Gone with the wind. And fans scream YOU MUST PAY ATTENTION TO US!!!!!
My GOD. I hope at times they AREN'T paying attention to us!!!

Take this with a grain of salt.
But I think it's better you know what's floating around on the BSG set!

KR, Dirk cancelled two cons, one in August and one in Sept. because he's filming a movie in Europe--Germany, I believe he said in his chat. Do not, I repeat, do not hold your breath.
I feel much better having said that.

Even with Dirk's busy schedule, there are several ways he can still do BSG.
One is being the voice of god; they can simply record what he has to say without his committing to a week or so of filming.
He could only be in the final minutes of the cliffhanger, again keeping his commitment at a minimum.
Bottom line, if the money is worth it, Dirk can adjust his schedule.
I won't hold my breath- but I would not discount his appearance either.

Ah, the notion of phoning in the performance...not appetizing.
I really would hope that it would be worth the hype, rather than some silly stunt casting element, if it were to pan out.
