The continuation is alive and well. Richard starring in the new series as a Mandela like character will not hurt us. IMHO Richard will probably play Croft from tos. My line of reasoning, the same actor playing two vastly different characters in a movie or series. Telly Savalas played Maggot a psychopathic killer in the original Dirty Dozen. After Lee Marvin's passing another two movies for this franchise were commissioned titled The Dirty Dozen: The Deadly Mission and DD: The Fatal Mission starring Savalas as Major Wright a good guy who leads both dirty dozens in both aformentioned movies to thwart the Nazis.

My guess is that Richard Hatch will play an old colonial warrior who refused to fight at some point during the original cylon war. He will be a cylon sympathizer who wanted to deal with the cylons rather than fight them from the beginning way back when. He would have predicted the events that occurred to some extent. He will now appear as a wise man ahead of his time as opposed to a traitor. Somehow his character will have some knowledge of cylon behaviour or technology that will prove necessary to the Galactica's survival.----Just my guess!

I agree, if the continuation happens, I don't think that Richard's participation will harm his involvement or role in the continuation. (Good example with Savalas btw. I'd totally forgotten about his two different roles in the DD franchise.)
