Quite a few broken links, but it looks promising. I can't wait to see the movie.

Thanks Peter. Firefly looks posed to make a great comeback.

Thomas, I've discovered the show through DVD, I can't believe those dopes at Fox cancelled it (there again...).

Jayne is worth the price of admission alone and Kaylee, ah sweet Kaylee...

Anyway, I'm sure the movie's going to be really shiney!

Best,

Peter

Hey Peter,

Firefly really got alot of bad luck. In america there was alot going on at the time. I'm sure you know how the pilot was canned at the last minute by Fox who demanded a new pilot in two days. That would become "The Train Job." And it was kinda weak. And didn't do a good job setting the story background.

But the bad luck continued. The next show I believe was overshadowed by some sporting event here which ran late (I forget which.) that pushed Firefly's airtime. The next two weeks was dominated by news as the Washington DC snipers were picking people off at random. At that point Fox decided to basically pull support. Commercials for Firefly were dropped from the week except for the night it aired. That was further reduced to just the few minutes before it started. The commercials looked good but very minimal ... just the cast standing in front of a black background, (the footage was tinted blue) while a announcer said Firefly and the airtime.

Basically Fox decided to kill the show. It wasn't what they wanted. And they made sure not to waste money getting new viewers.

We just had alot of bad luck over here.

I guess we were luckier in the UK for Firefly (from a programming point of view), despite it's short run. It got a relatively high profile run on the Sci-Fi Channel, with double-bills of episodes most weeks (a repeat of the previous week's show, then the new episode).

I must admit, it took a while for the show to grow on me, but it's great to know that the gang will get a second chance.

All the best,

Hey Ian! Glad you liked it. Which episodes got you into the Firefly?

I watched the show from the first episode (looking at the online guides - the UK running order was somewhat different to the US order - The Sci-fi channel ran the original pilot 'Serenity' first - plus the later episodes were re-arranged).

I think the episodes that warmed me to Firefly were things like 'Our Mrs. Reynolds' & 'Jaynestown' (for two) - as obviously a show not heavily reliant on special effects - I think episodes like these had really good writing and characters, and also had a quirky difference from other genre shows.

All the best,

What a shame it's been cancelled, figures... I always love the ones that get cancelled . I can't wait to see the movie! Thanks people for the introduction I'm in the process of converting others...

Ian, you must have seen it in its proper order. The one it was designed for, and not the Fox order FOX ordered.

I loved Jaynestown too! I thought the Ballad of Jayne was very fun. I liked Firefly from the second show on but Out of Gas sealed it for me.
