Heart Sandy Grushow (FOX) relieved of duties

According to a breaking story at DRUDGE REPORT, "FOX TV topper Sandy Grushow relieved of duties, DRUDGE has learned, Murdoch concerned with direction of net, ratings..."

Grushow was responsible for not green-lighting Tom DeSanto's "Battlestar Galactica" show, instead opting for "Firefly" which was ill-placed within the FOX television lineup (which faced poor scheduling and marketing which ultimately doomed that show).

I read at Variety that Grushow left to go into production. His company is called Phase Two and will be based at Fox.

he really treated firefly with an almost disdain. he killed the pilot which was pretty good and made them create a more actiony episode reeeaaally quickly. So they got off to a bad start. Then he killed advertising for the show. So unless you were watching the show beforehand, you never saw a commercial for Firefly.

I thought Firefly was terribly boring but you could see there was some quality to the writing.
My wife got the DVD and I had a chance to watch it in order.
It really grew on me so now I would definetly go see a Firefly movie.
Space Above and Beyond suffered from the same treatment as Firefly by Fox.
I'm afraid Desanto's Galactica would have also got it the same way.

Default Here's to Sci-Fi's Galactica

Well- I'm glad Galactica ended up on Sci-Fi.
It will get treated better, especially if a first season order is in the works...

Knowing sci fi they will probably make a show that is even worse than the dribble they gave us on December 8.

Default koenigrules.

Cool handle. I am also a Space 1999 fan. Martin Landau was outstanding in the role.

Default I Thought So Too

I did like Season 1 over 2 of 1999.
Too trekky the second year.
I got all the DVDs & still think the first year holds up better than the second...

Default Hindsight

Too little too late for that I guess ... so Fox only now realizes that Sandy's "gold" was not nearly golden enough ...

Lack of direction, bad ratings, killing shows ... he should apply at Sci Fi. I'm sure there's a job for him there.

Default Firefly

I thought Firefly was incredibly entertaining. I probably would not have bought the DVD set, except it's surprisingly inexpensive. Definitely worth buying.

I wonder if this guy had anything to do with the creative decisions taken about FOx programming in general. If he's the one that cancelled FUturama, then I have but one thing to say to him: Your ass is mine, bitch!

*wondering how that'll make it through the word censor...*

i loved out of gas too!

Its probably one of the really smart space scifi episodes that really reflects a realistic situation. You got a cheap ship, something stupid breaks and it dies in space. There is no rayguns, nor covert alien spys that change shape, just a ten dollar item that breaks and threatens the life of everyone onboard.
