A "Vision" to OPEN the New Series
I have discovered by reading many different fan reviews that I am not the only person who was bummed by the lack of the Centurion Soldiers in the mini. So ... in my vivid SciFi filled dreams last night ... I had an opening scene vision for the new BSG should it go series:
(From space Zoom on Caprica, into & through the devastated cityscape, and out the an area similar to where Boomer made the Raptor repairs) The rolling fields filled with newer model Centurions, and a few groups of the original Centurions. What a way to open a Cylon scene with impact!!!!

How about the show opens with Starbuck getting captured and enduring a sex change operation which replaces him with a male character?

Why the obsession with that character being male?
The character's gender has nothing whatsoever to do with whether it's a worthwhile character, or whether it is a good or bad performance by the actor.
Anyone would think there are some people with very old fashioned sexist views, who need to live vicariously through a character, imagining that character is themself, in order to enjoy the program.

A Product of His Time
I agree. I don't have a problem with Starbuck being a woman. Now admittedly, I prefer looking at an attractive woman than Dirk Benedict any day (sorry, Dirk), but that's neither here nor there.
I think some of this is nostalgia for a time when "free love" was still hip and no one had to worry about AIDS...
Unfortunately, we live in different times now and our sci-fi is supposed to reflect our world now. I seem to remember a lot of "disco" type music on TOS too, and think nobody wants THAT to come back!
I'll judge the new Starbuck on how the character develops and see where it goes.

Hmmmm....Centurions. That does give me an idea. There was one or two abroad the Galactica in that museum part. What if once the Galactica finds safe haven and everything seems to calm down. Boomer and Typho are busy doing their thing and leave Boxey unattended. Boxey feeling sooo bored decides take an impromptu tour of the museum and manages to activate the Centurions. Then we cut to a scene of Starbuck and crewmate engaged in a card game. She smiles as she lays down her hand,"Woot! Full Colors!” The crewmate decides to take a risk and ask Starbuck if she is up for a wild card game. She agrees and he gets called back to duty. Kara stares at him up and down as he walks away. Adama and Tigh talk about where to go next. Lee and Laura talk politics and she tries to get him to become a liaison between her and Comdr. Adama. A few moments later we find the crewman walking down a dark corridor. He passes a sign that reads,"This Way to the Museum" and starts to whistle a tune. Without warning a Centurion cuts him down with its saber. Then we go back to see Starbuck with a big smirk on her face as she lights a cigar, she mutters to herself, she stands and walks in the direction that the crewman left. She arrives at his location just the Centurion is walking away and blasts the Centurion in the head. She alerts Adama to the situation and he investigates the museum to find the other Centurion missing.
Wow, what felgercarb! I made that up as I was typing....no thought went into that at all...lol.
If they want to open the series with a bang maybe they should do a remake of Gun on Ice Planet Zero.

Unless she is butch...? Hmmm but I am done complaining about the character change. I will be the first among us to 'move on' and forget that the new Starbuck is female.

And I'm not sure but I think Dirk has a bigger chest than she does. Sorry but I like a woman that looks like a woman. You can be a strong character and look good too. Not to mention the personality of both the character and the actress aren't very pleasant.
With that, in her words,I say Deal with it.

I guess its a matter of taste, I seem to fall for strong women like that, Without going in specifics (to preserve a minimum of decorum for the faint of heart) I think she is "well-equipped" and seems approachable. The tough exterior is just a front for the proverbial "heart of gold" beneath. Or she could be a b*tch. I think she'll grow on us.
But, then again, what do I know?

I have edited this post. Just in case someone reads this involved with the show I would not want to hurt anyone's feelings.

Ouch! Pig-like? She *really* isn't you cup tea, eh?
Take a look at this and see if it reminds you of her:

Actually I am exaggerating. She looks like someone I knew growing up, a friends sister. That probably is the problem.

Transference
That's cool, I guess there's a lot of transference going on.
Upon reflection, I realize that she reminds me a girlfriend from years ago with whom I had lot of fun...ah, nostalgia!
