Default Ron Moore tells G2003 advocates to cool it!

This was a response from Ron Moore (producer of the new Galactica2003) to fans of his who have been creating false clones to harass Galactica fans. The original post was made over at cylon.org on June 20, 2003. (*note:see 2nd reply below)

Quote:
It's come to my attention that there is a group (or a person) out there cloning handles, faking support for me and the miniseries, attacking other fans, and generally being a pain in the ass for people.

Please stop.

Actually, knock it the frack off.

You're doing me no favors by stoking the flames of anger and animosity which already exist among elements of the fan base even higher.

It's also just not cool and you should find something better to do with your time.

Ronald D. Moore

The above post was made in response to a situation in fans of the new Galactica Series were attacking fans of the old Galactica series. This was due to the fact that the new series has a very small number of fans. Most people love the old show but hate the new changes. So inorder to drown out the majority of people, a few very radical fans of the new miniseries created an army of clones to disagree and provoke (and piss off) the majority of people on scifi and battlestar galactica boards. Most notably this was done by the owner of the http://www.galactica2003.net/ website.

Because of this we ask that you don't use yahoo or hotmail to register with us.

And of course anyone who clones handles is an idiot. Oh, and they will be banned from this board.

*note: the original post of this was screwed up over at Cylon.org. if I am not mistaken it was due to hackers who messed up the database. And while there is a backup record of the data, its not usable because of a forum upgrade incompatibility.

That is my knowledge of it. Though Sandy(CA's admin) could correct me if I got it wrong.

Default Moore

I've liked a lot of stuff he has done, especially with DS9, but I feel he is way off the mark with this new BSG. I have reservations and opinions, but I am going to wait until the show actually comes out before I criticize it.

Default Comments on Ronald Moore Letter

I can well understand and completely agree with Mr. Moore's response to the issue. At best the disinformation is childish; at worst it is malicious. It was a given when the mini-series was announced that there would be opposing viewpoints. But come on! This kind of dissention is what has been and is killing Enterprise. Let's not let it happen to Galactica! I mean, if people want to grouse about the series, fine. But at least let it AIR first!

In my case, I am a "first run" fan of the Original Battlestar: Galactica. I remember it very fondly and am overjoyed that it is now out on DVD! I enjoyed and appreciated it back in 1978-79 when I was 21 years old and find that this appreciation has only grown now that I am 45. The Original Galactica was and is one of the finest sci-fi series mounted for television. And the excellent novels written over the past few years by Richard Hatch and his co-authors have only heightened my desire to see Galactica come back as a series. Ideally, it would be as a continuation of the original as has been suggested by Mr. Hatch and others. If that could become reality on the Big Screen, I for one would be thrilled!

That having been said, I am looking forward with great anticipation to seeing the "Re-Imagined" Galactica mini-series. The producers have, from the get-go, told us that this isn't our father's Galactica -- that it is essentially a new vision of the original. Yes there are going to be many changes, but at its core it is still Galactica. So, going in, I am not expecting things to be the way they were. In fact, I am looking forward to seeing what new thoughts and directions Mr. Moore and company are going to take. I am not going to make the mistake of panning the new series before having even seen it. This is a new series with a new (and very impressive) cast.

We may turn out loving it or not. Personally, I'm going to withhold judgment until the last episode -- because althought it is Battlestar: Galactica, it should be judged on its merits, and not those of the 1970's series which spawned it.

Default Amen, MMaola!

Those are the most sane words I have heard on this issue to date! I know there are many TOS fans who simply refused to view the mini because it was different. I know many more who cannot look at it upon its own merits.
I was critical of the re-imaged BSG and of all the mess surrounding the whole production, but you know I am in my 30s now, an original TOS fan from childhood, and I was able to look upon both with a critical eye.
It saddens me that there are people on both sides of this debate who are going to such lengths as to create hate and discontent. . . especially those who say that if you're a fan of one you can't be a fan of the other. Well, FRACK! ! !
Let's stop the petiness on both sides, discuss the BSG universe and all of the possibilities which a Larson continuation or a Moore series can lead us to! We can all agree to disagree, but we are also adults capable of listening critically to others opinions and views without attacking each other.
It makes far more sense to me that BSG fans who seek a Moore series can benefit from the ideas TOS continuation fans have to offer, and vice versa. Anyone who says otherwise is imposing limits upon a universe which is ripe with possibilities!

I'm OUT! ! !

I think you guys are missing something.

Ron Moore was berating fans of the miniseries who were inpart responsible for creating such an anger amoung the BG fanbase against the miniseries.

They really drove the level of dislike into pure hate.

I got the point from Ron Moore! I was expanding the comments to include both sides of the issue who have chosen to use savagery to make their points, rather than rational discussion and lively debate. We are not twelve, so those who choose to use such tactics should stop acting like they are and join the adults in discussion, or shut the frack up!

I didn't realize how closely my thoughts followed after Ritchard's, but hey it's true!

In all fairness, Conundrum, although I am not one to speak for RDM, I believe he was getting pissed that some people were going as far as cloning names and such and "fanning the flames."

Those people did not create the problems, as you cannot fan flames unless they already are there. But certainly, whoever was doing that wasn't helping things.

Michael,
The clones really did create their own fires. This thread was initially started to record Mr. Moore's comments to that original trouble-causing handful (they were literally a handful of people acting like 40 or so). They did more harm to his production and were countering any effort at reaching out to the existing BSG fans that he personally made. He was pissed at them & their tactics and said so.

Leave it at that.

BTW: This has nothing to do with those that actually liked the mini once it aired. They are actually fans. The clones were fictional creations.
