Original Galactica design???
SOMEBODY here must be able to answer this.
Captain April posted over at StarshipBuilder.com that he had seen the preview of the new series last night on Sci Fi.
Now, he swears that the original Galactica design was seen in a NEW FX shot with the updated Vipers and Raiders. What gives? Apparently the Cylon Basestar is also seen, looking much like the old one.
My question: is the updated battlestar design seen on the bridge displays referring to a new class of ship currently in service? Is the Galactica taken out of mothballs an older class, looking like the old girl we know and love, which leads humanity to safety?:uhdrop:
Too good to be true?
Yes or no will suffice!
Mike

Let's hope this is not yet another meatless bone tossed our way by RDM, Hammer, and Co.

I may be able to answer your question, Last Battlestar. First off let me say that I am a classic BG fan who wished for a continuation of the original series with the same actors, and I despise the direction and changes of the new show. With that said, I spent some time on the Battlestar 2003 website a couple days ago out of curiosity, and I read some data on the 120 battlestars of the Colonial fleet in the remake. In this new story, the Galactica is a first generation battlestar, built over 50 years ago. The bulk of the Colonial fleet is now made up of second or third generation (I don't remember which) battlestars which are much more advanced that the original battlestars. When the fleet is attacked first by a Cylon computer virus and then Cylon ships, my understanding is that the newer battlestars and Vipers are rendered useless, but the original Galactica and sister ships and Vipers which aren't so computer controlled are not affected by the virus, and are able to fight back. So to my understanding, the ship in the bridge display is the new ship design, and the original is the Galactica as we know it.
Oh yeah, you said a yes or no will suffice. Sorry, got a little long-winded.
Allow me to start over...
Yes. :p

Mike, it's a new design.
The original Galactica is NOT being used.
Sorry

I should stand corrected then. But on the BG2003 site they have a pic of the original design of the Galactica in reference to the remake, but maybe it is a trick meant to fool curious original show fans.
