Default Classic BG due 10/25 plus preview link

Classic BG is now (apparently) due in stores 10/25 and has been (slightly) reduced in price. Here's a link that includes a preview but I should warn you that one of the pages previewed includes the last page of the first issue. Not the brightest move, imo--especially as its somewhat lackluster (again imo)...

Looks like the arts okay, not sure about the writting yet. Guess I will need to read it cover to cover to see how the story goes. The only thing we can do is give feedback to help them make it better if we don't like it.

The writing is just from those few pages reeking heavily of every wrongheaded cliche about TOS. These guys think of Starbuck as the one-dimensional rougish "space Casanova" and that last page alas shows how they're more interested in living up to the image of the cliche rather than a take long, serious look at just how the characters in general developed over the course of the series (perhaps that's why they went the flashback route to begin with, since they figured the cliche was more worth revisiting).

I thought this issue was written by the guy that didn't watch the current thing, if so why is a fumerillo a "cigar" and "fracking" was not a word option for TOS as far as I remember. Also in the Thurston novelizations it mentioned what the fumerillos were made from though I'm not recalling it right now.

The one thing I don't like right now is that Starbuck is talking way to much to himself.

Well, we have some more bad news regarding this whole endeavor. According to the message board for Dynamite, they have NO intention of doing any stories set after "Hand Of God" beacuse (I am not making this up) they think only the "hardcore" fans would want something like that, and that in all likelihood too many with their own visions would complain so that by sticking only to stories set during the series "everyone" can be happy.

They've guessed wrong on this point, because if that's their thinking this endeavor gets a big no sale from me. I have no desire to waste my time where the stories are going to be ones of perpetual stagnation concerning the characters, and endless contradiction concerning the series itself since you can not say you're going to do an endless stream of stories set say, before Serina dies, or before the Pegasus is encountered and perform a successful balancing act of making sure the characters long-term will still act the way they did in later episodes of the original series.

At this point, it's woefully anti-climactic for me. Unless Dynamite gets themselves slapped in the face to shake them out of this ignorant stupor that EVERYONE would be happy with flashback stories.

Well, like the debut issue or not, its creative team sure puts out enough press releases and interviews:

http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=89024

The reader's comment re: another "Starbuck stranded on planet" scenario was so true it wasn't funny. Hasn't the writer EVER heard of the constant (and unfair) criticism of BG being a "crashland episode of the week" series?

I'll defiinitely keep picking up the title but wasn't overly thrilled with the first issue. IMO characterization was too off on Tigh and Starbuck, and the excitement just wasn't there for me; if I wasn't such a huge BG fan I doubt I would fork out the $$$ for future issues.

Gotta admit, my passion for the new comic book series got deflated quite quickly because of all this recent news from Dynamite Entertainment on the series' now limited scope of staying within the original show's run of stories etc. It's kinda like Marvel comics all over again saying their entire BG run after 'Lost Planet Of The Gods', begins afterwards and ends just before 'The Lost Warrior'.

For a near 3 year run of stories in the funny pages, i guess alot truly did happen between those episodes huh?

Not good, its another lesson in not hyping up something before its released. But my passion as a Galactica fan got the better of me. But i see forsee opportunities if things change, wonder if several smaller comic companies still take submissions from freelanced writers or that they'd be willing to expand upon their classic Galactica comic book series with secondary spin off book should the sales be great for the first 12 months of selling issues without any late comics being issued down the road.

Maybe several Galactica website owners could get in touch with Dynamite and cirulate any recent developing fandom news through the letter pages (if they'll have any that is?) of the Dynamite Battlestar Galactica comic books.

Imagine BG fan made movies being advertised through the comics or the Galactica websites giving their addresses out through the comics thus creating some needed exposure for more classic Galactica being somewhat interactive on the net to boot.

Realistically it comes down to the sales and whether or not if the new series is any good though.

And why can't Dynamite use the classic Galactica graphic letter "fonts" for the classic series book rather than the one from the new show?

I still say Dark Horse Comics would be the perfect place for the Battlestar Galactica property both old and new series. Cos if this series of new comics doesn't work out. I hope the rights to making Battlestar Galactica comics ends up there instead.
