OT: Trek & Real Science
Something for those interested in if there is some actual scientific possibility in Trek's hardware:

Dying to get there?
"In this biodigital cloning, tele-travelers would have to die, in a sense."
Not to mention that pesky Einstien fellow's Relativity Theory, go off romping faster than light, while the folks @ home don't age?
The fiction in scifi.................

Hey, dvo, thought it was a little distraction: seems all the theoretical physics stuff reads: yea this could be done if we throw out this law or that principle changes at the speed of light, or some such gobbledygook.
I thought the relativity theory thing was those traveling at the speed of light or near it don't age as quickly as the planet bound folks.
Biological Cloning: See, Bones wasn't nuts when he refused to use transporters in the Trek movies: he'd already died enough times getting his molecules rearranged in TOS.

dvo,
how did you find that one? Kinda spooky how candid they are about "the original getting destroyed in the scanning process" isn't it?
Oh, doesn't IBM stand for "I've Been Moved" (sort of an inside joke with the employees)? Bit of a twist on that one!

I own IBM stock
"It is the best high tech stock to own when the will bubble burst with the dot com's." brother-in-law
I keep some so I can give my brother in law hell. I sold most of it years ago but didn't tell him.
I am bad.
Accually I've owned IBM stock since college.

I worked there during college as a co-op/intern.
Interesting culture. Thought they were starting to do well again with their move into more of a tech support/consulting role.
