Enjoy this while it lasts...
Well, enjoy these while they last, foks. I textured my highly detailed Galactica, and man does it really choke up the iClone. LOL! I saved the model, in case it actually IS useable in video. But, I'm still working on the redux as well.
I can correct the dark engine thrusters.
But the program was really draggin' tail when it came down to just rendering these photos....took probably about 30-45 seconds per photo. I can only imagine that it would either take a long time to render out a minute's worth of video (most FX shots don't last more than ten seconds), or when it finished the process, I would end up with barely a half-second's footage.
I applied a simple Metal texture to the ship. The texturing I actually applied in 3DEXChange, because it allowed me to work on individual sections. Then I reimported it to iClone.
I do know this much. If I were successfully able to video this ship, I could not add another ship to the original video. It would ALL have to be chromakeyed and composited.

Re: Enjoy this while it lasts...
This version seems to be much more workable.
For one thing, no reflections, so that seriously cuts down on the workload.
I applied an Aluminum texture to the ship. Kinda turned out a little bluish, but I think it's a nice little shade for the Big G. Admittedly, I still love the profile shot (second pic) from the first set of texturing.
Would love to hear from Galactica fans. Are you still out there?

Welcome back, my friend. And thank you for the kind words.
I'm now sitting down to start work on the star dock platform for the Galactica, from my "Galactica: The Last Battlestar" story.

no problem mate.
it seems to me that your doing a great job on the models. your only limitation is your program iClone.
I said it before so I will say it again, "I would love to see what you could
do with Lightwave or Max ...... but than Blender is making some waves
in the modelling world and that one is free.
but you where experimenting with that or am I thinking about someone else ...

I haven't tried the animation side of Blender yet, but iClone allows me to animate the models I build in Blender quite nicely.
One day, I'll actually get brave enough to attempt animation in Blender.
Oh, yes, iClone definitely has limitations, but so far, I've found many workarounds for them.
