Douglas Bader, if i remember correctly. Had an accident and his feet didn't recover quite enough so he wasn't allowed to fly. He had them cut off and learned to board and fly the plane with the tin legs. (Had to do it in less than 2 minutes to be allowed to fly.)
A little expansion on the Tiger theme: Sherman had to shoot from less than 500m but Tiger could shoot at 1500
T-34 is the Father of whole generations of tanks, BUT if you see the kill quota, it's 3-4 to 1 in favor for the Tiger. The T-34 was simply outclassed, but many crews rammed the Tigers, so both tanks exploded. BUT there were only a few Tigers, and endless T-34's.

Who was "The Desert Fox"?

EDIT: About the Gloster: You mean by entered service entering the experimental squadron. It never saw combat in WWII. You have to be more precise with the questions.
