I'll take all the sci-fi I can get!
I love having a history, a background, to draw on. I remember when I first saw a trailer for Star Trek VI. There was a clip where the Klingon bird-of-prey fired while cloaked. I yelled out, "But, a bird-of-prey can't fire when it's cloaked!"
I also like being surprised, which doesn't happen much anymore. It cab be fun when science fiction gets turned on its head.
