Well there are a great many people who feel that it was years of poor politcal policies that ALLOWED people like Bin Laden to exist. As a matter of fact Bill Clinton, when given th eopportunity, did not take advantage of detaining Bin Laden.
And as everyone knows we supported Saddam Hussein during the Reagan years because the United States was at odds with Iran.
I don't meant to get too politcal here but there are some parallels.
Also I don't think snapping the neck of a baby make them look sympathetic at all if that was his intention as you say.
