Those of you, who are sound engineers, see this usually done electrically on a sound board or on an oscilliscope. The point is that you can do this for any frequency of sound for which you can make a Rubens tube. Its how we visually confirmed ultrasound and subsonics before we had good electrical means to do so early this century.
