TOS Marathons and TNS
 

Question, if TNS was not on the air, would Sci-Fi be running as many TOS marathons as they do now? Sorry if I opened a can of worms, but just a thought of mine... :salute: :Nsalute:

Not sure. They've been running TOS marathons and blocks of shows for years. Probably just making the best use of the available content, to fill out their daytime schedule.

Yeah - they need to fill airtime when everybody's at work. They save primetime for giant insects and "The Flintstones".

I would say about the same....

I mean, SciFi is owned by Universal, therefore, they don't need to shell out the fees to run it. That's why a lot of classic Sci Fi like UFO, Space:1999, etc., got dropped as it cost Skiffy cash to run them. Skiffy's been running BSG as long as I can remember watching the channel. It would be nice if they had an evening of TOS reruns for a change. It'd be interesting to see what kind of numbers it generates after 20 odd years.

It's been in the daytime "rotation" along with shows like Buck Rogers (another Uni show). I really miss the Lost in Space/Time Tunnel/Land of the Giants/Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea shows they used to have in the daily rotation. But, those are all Fox properties and it costs bucks to run them.

I have to agree with BST and Dawg on this one as I am home all day and my tv is on most of the time.

I also have to say that I don't really need their versions of a marathon of TOS because I can watch it whenever I wish to as I have the complete dvd set and I can make up my own marathon from it!

I'd have to say yes, because there are lots of other good (for their time mind you) sci-fi's that they dont play. I think its got to do with an increase of interest in TOS due to TNS. People want to know more about this thing called BSG, no matter who's the monkey's organ grinder.

I have noticed a few of the marathons synch up with some of the more critical episodes, notably the miniseries, the series premeire night and the finale are all within 24 hours of a TOS marathon. And all have carried at least 1 spot/hr for TNS.

Someone in marketing is earning their keep at least in making the attempt.

its all a cheap attempt to lure TOS fans to what the other show by throwing them a bone but IMHO it won't work and this is lost on Scifi's execs.

*ahem* SciFi ran TOS marathons for years.

Only recently has it became noticable that they're running them because like jewels said- They're airing them now around certain nuBG eps.

I skipped yesterdays because I had better things to do!

If my memory serves me right I beleive that sci-fi used to air TOS every other wed during the day. Not home during the day anymore so I don't know if they are still doing that.

Os was showed time and time again on intergalactic Wednesdays with questions at the bottom of the screen. You had to log onto sci fi.com in order to answer them. They all pertained to a new battlestar Galactica series which sci fi was developing.

you are correct kingfish. They also had information that popped up giving you clues into things that were upcoming in a scene. It was on the air on sundays for a while and then it was gone. now they only show it in mini marathons:( :mad:

Gonna have to figure out how to program the recorder for when I'm not home.....
