If you want a twin engine viper....

There's one on ebay:

No, I don't think it's 6th millenium one (Long Patrol) if my memory serves me....any guesses or does it just look like a fan/model builder's one-of designs?

Julie -

I saw that as well - it looks like it's fetching a nice price for a "kit-bash". I thought that it was rather nice and it did remind me of the 6th millenium job from TOS.

I thought of Peter when I saw it....

Good eye!

I thought of Peter & Titon & Darrell. One of them will know whether this is close to that 6th millenium one or not ;)

Actually, that would be a very close resemblence to the 6th Mill Viper.

One could actually get away with using it in a fan film.

Titon February 2nd, 2005 07:18 AM

Nope.

;)

The wing configuration is different amongst other things compared to the one in Long Patrol.

Peter-

Where's that nifty pre-production drawing you bought?

I'll see if I can find the scan of it when I get home from work.

Best,

The Pre-Production drawing that I have doesn't look like the 6th Mil. Actually looks very different.

Also... *thwacks Don* ... I said a close RESEMBLENCE, not it looks like it

whoa!
Excellent images! thanks Peter and Jewels for posting them!!!!

Darrell Lawrence February 3rd, 2005 07:50 AM

Peter, that's the one I have.

The concept looks less like the actual 6th Mil Viper than that e-bay model does

Looks a little bit like the Maximum Press drawn Vipers. Although they larger and bulkier looking in the comics.

For kit bashed versions, it looks pretty good. Great even. Perhaps done to look like an older model before the ones in the series. Thats why the threeengine design is so beautiful in comparsion to any other kind of unqiue look for the Colonial Viper.

Peter, it's close but there are significant differences between the filmed version and the picture you have posted here.

For one there was not dual tail fins.

:)

Darrell Lawrence February 3rd, 2005 12:37 PM

Nor is it "squared".

Well, I'm waiting for someone to make a CG model of it anyway. ;)

If I had non-motion-blurred images of it... ;)

The kitbash in the auction is pretty cool looking. I dig seeing the fan made designs, they always make the established universe seem so much bigger and more intricate.

As for the 6th mil viper. It seems like that design would have been a perfect money saving device for Buck Rogers to re-use it. Anyone know if that ever happened? That might be a good way to get a better look at the ship.

Here's a schematic I put together for the 6M fighter (which I called the Scorpion):
