Fleets new background aka I found Carillon!

Instead of using a framecap I am using a REAl nebula photograph. I searched through tons of images. I literally searched the throughout the heavens for the right image. It was haaard long work. And I searched for many months.

And I found one that looked like the one in the show. And I used some photoshoping to make it look even closer.

The M42 nebula in Orion's Sword

The Red Nebula near Carrilon

Its not exact. But if you imagine a star not on the right. And darken the yellow cluster on the left...

BTW here are some closer images to the one I used (though its not it). http://www.astrosurf.com/lorenzi/images/m42.htm . (Just tilt your head to the right.)

And here is a good page for locating our Nebula
http://reductionism.net.seanic.net/b.../M42/m_m42.htm

This is one of the most well known nebulas in the sky. M42 is the brightest diffuse nebula from the northern hemisphere. It forms the middle "star" of a cluster of three that forms a sword in the Orion constellation.

Being the center of a sword in the heavens, and one of the brightest of nebulas is kinda neat.

:D

(Btw... we have two more links to this.)

The one thing that bothers me, is that you can't see the similarity! I totally accidentally obscured it with the bg starchart paths on top.

Btw the starchart is VERY exact. it is the same chart you see in the show. Took me awhile , but I ploted out all the curves. YOu can even see the looong out of the way navigational path from the Colonies to Carrilon!

:)

A nice change Thomas, it brightens Fleets nicely, without being too in your face, I like it....

Tom -

I had noticed, but then wondered how long I've been staring at it without realizing.... The first thing I noticed were the different shades of red, orange and yellow - then I actually noticed that it was a real nebula! Good job overlaying the Colonial map grid over it - it looks teriffic!

Best,
Bryan

Glad you all liked it! :D

You said the bright star is on the wrong side in Orion....hmm if someone was on the opposite side of Orion to us, wouldn't the bright star be on their right if it's on our left?

Circular reckoning courses are just not my specialty but it might make more sense from one slowly spinning galaxy to the next.

Cool find!
