For you LA based Buck Rogers fans....

Hey everyone -

Remember when American Cinematheque had a screening of Battlestar Galactica in LA a while back? Well, they are doing it again - with Buck Rogers! Here's the official blurb:

The American Cinematheque and Cinefantastique Magazine are sponsoring a screening of the Buck Rogers in the 25th Century theatrical feature (the Gil Gerard version) at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. This special presentation begins at 5:00 pm on Saturday, August 14th and is part of the Cinematheque's 5th Annual Festival of Fantasy, Horror & Science Fiction.

A panel discussion will follow the screening. Executive producer Glen Larson, costume designer Jean-Pierre Dorliac and visual effects artist Peter Anderson are all tentatively scheduled to appear. We are also planning a prop and costume display.

Hmmm....I wonder if I could make it down to LA for this? The tough bit is getting tickets - although they are available 30 days in advance. If I remember correctly, the only way to get them is by mail, faxm or in person...

Anyone in the LA area interested?

Best,
Bryan

Bryan,

Don't they have a website, where you can order tickets? You'd probably have them in less than a week.

Pete -

Believe it or not, they don't.... You have to be a member of Cinematheque (50 bucks) to get them by mail. I could do the fax thing, but I was hoping to get someone interested to go with. Like I said, you have to get them in person, by fax, or by mail.

I've heard that our Tommy is a big Buck Rogers fan....! I wanted to go being that Glen Larson is going to be there for a Q&A session after the film is over. Wouldn't it be fun to ask Papa Larson as to his plans for the movie rights?

Best,
Bryan

Seriously, I could go... but I'm not really interested in it. I was wondering how much this would cost. To be honest I already have much of Buck on tape. But if the tickets are like only $10 or $15 I might.

I'm not that close to where it will be playing. And its like 110 degrees and two hours driving to get the tickets.

:)

Tom -

I didn't realize that you lived that far from LA - someone told me you lived in the immediate area. I know what you mean about the drive - I'm going to be coming down from Sacramento early that day and then drive back up after the Q&A. The tickets are only 9 dollars apiece for non-members. If you're not really interested, I don't want to place you into feeling obligated. I think that I might know one or two other people, but I will have to chase them up.

I was planning on driving down to San Diego for Comicon - I could pick them up in LA on the way back to Sacramento as an alternate means of getting them.

Best,
Bryan

I remember when stuff like that was an adventure!
like when I came accross Canada in a car I bought for 150 dollars I had 7 birds, 2 cats and a hampster in the back seat of the car, a U-haul behind us and 3 thousand miles ahead of us and we knew no one at the other end had no place to live no job and less than a thousand dollars to our name...ah the good old days!:D

Rowan -

It's about a 5-1/2 hour drive each way - I admit, it was the spirit of the adventure that got me to thinking about it. Last year, two friends and I went to LA and back to pick up an SUV-load of model tanks that one of the friends purchased. We made it down and back (with food and gas stops) in only 12 hours. It was kind of a fun trip and it went really fast. My buddy, Terry did the drive down and I did the drive back - of course driving his Ford Expedition isn't the same as driving my Ford Escape!

It was the fact that such a trip could be made in a relatively short time that made me feel like doing it again.

Tom - I am a big fan of the Buck Rogers movie - not so much the series. I would love to see it on the big screen again - I missed the screenings of BSG and Space:1999 at the Egyptian, but I really don't want to pass on this one. The funny thing is, I just watched the movie about a week ago, but I didn't know about the showing until earlier this week.

I really do want the chance to ask Papa Larson about his BSG film rights and what he intends to do with them...

Later,
Bryan
