Big O Anyone?
I was just wondering if we had any fans of Big O in here?
At first I didn't have a very good opinion of it. But I liked the music. Sometimes it felt kinda like jazz which really fit the detective/film noir feel it had at times. But also the big fun action music when it was time to enjoy some robot pounding! :D I'm not much of a fan of the big robot genre, but this was light hearted and kinda fun. It almost felt nostalgic for the kind of fun I had watching Gigantor as a kid. The story at first made no sense to me. It seems like there was holes everywhere. But I'm finally starting to make sense of the whole thing. Plus it makes alot more sense in the original japanese. Even though the dubbing is really good. Roger Smith is a Bruce Wayne like mercenary, while Angel is the mystery woman. They are voiced by Cowboy Bebop's Spike and Faye. Dorothy the android is pretty good too with her sarconic wit. Tommy has grown to like this odd little toon. |
Count me in! I have actually gotten to the point I hate to miss it! LOL I found it by accident one night when I was watching the tape of the "Clone Wars" and it kept taping and it came on! I gotta say Dorothy keeps him on his toes.

I watch it on adultswim on cartoon network sometimes. It's not my favorite show but it's pretty cool
|
When I first saw it, I hated it. But as I have watched some more of it on Adult Swim, I have grown to respect it a great deal. And besides, the theme music ain't bad either.:D
|
LOL! It was the music for me too that made me like it at first.
When I first saw it,, it looked like the animated batman. I usually prefer more illustrative drawings, this was more sylistic flat shapes. But I really loved the music. It sounded at times like a film noir black and white detective movie. And the action music was very fun! The biggest thing I hated was a giant grey and PINK robot. I'm not a great robot fan. But PINK?!?! I thought the design was horrid. But I have grown to love the big lug. I have grown to actually like this toon. it actually makes more sense in the japanese. Though I love the english voices. "Roger, you're a louse" sounds so much better in english! One of the things that confused me was all the talk of "memories". The big event happened 40 years ago when everone lost their memories. But most characters are under 40 so what would they have lost? They are too young to remember anything. it wasn't until I got into the japanese that I figured it out. "Memories" also refers to the knowledge lost. And for some unknown reason (explained later on) residents of Paradigm City are "remembering" the lost memories/knowledge. And that is valuable in a world that all such knowledge was lost. :D All in all a big thumbs up! |
Thanks for explaining that Conundrum! I was wandering
about that one so much I was getting a headache LOL |
I know! it gets soooo convoluted!
To be honest... I'm not sure if the english translators understood the really complicated plot. :D |
You mean the cartoon was not originally in English???
Kristi |
naaawww.... allot of the animation you see on tv are japanese shows dubbed into english. BigO, Inuyasha, Pokemon, and alot of others. :D
|
But it looks like they are moving their mouths like it would be english. Dang... I didn't know that!
OOOO thats another great anime... Inuyasha!! I like that one!!! Kristi |
INU means DOG in japanese!
:woof: oh yeah. Outlaw Star and Cowboy Bebop are japanese. Outlaw is funny cause so much is censored. Like all the blood is somehow painted out. And a swimsuit is painted on everytime the main girl is naked. There is a whole episode missing cause they go to a planet where the women are basically topless. |
Is there a Japanese phrase roughly meaning "forgive me for the rudeness I am about to commit" ???
|
well... I use to be able to say things like that. :D
|
I was led to believe it was a common idiomatic phrase, but obviously wouldn't have asked if I remembered it.
Perhaps a regional occurence. |
My wife says she's a fan of the Big O... <snicker>
:/: |
Anyone one remember how Cartoon Network used to be skittish about Big O's activation phrase? originally it was "In the name of God... Ye Not Guilty." But CN changed it to "In the name of GOOD!"
:D |
Ugh! Cultural censorship.
I know,it's not the govt doing it,so not really censorship in a first amendment sense. Still,at least they have the testicular fortitude to show Adult Swim. |
I love Inuyesha ......... I never get to watch it ........cause
it's too violent for the kids. Every once in awhile though the kids are asleep already when it's on ........AND THEN I get to see it. |
I hated that phrase ........ "IN THE NAME OF THE GOOD"
I kept going '................ "HUH??????" |
yeah.... that doesn't make any sense when its in the name of good, ye not guilty. This show has an element of religiousness like BG where there is a references to God.
Basically, the megadeuces from the past (like Big O) are instruments of God. And when you activate one, it judges you if you are worthy or not to weild the power of God. :D |
