What is Tom's Involvment With Transformers?

I keep hearing about this TF project Tom is working on, what is it? The Armada show, upcoming Energon, or a movie? I was just curious.

This was the initial announcement we got:

Did anyone talk to Tom at Galacticon about it?

michaelfaries November 12th, 2003 04:26 PM

I did. He's actively working on it. (I'm holding my hands over my mouth, as that's the path to inside info. again.) CG tests are a big step right now, considering the bulk of the visuals is on giant, transforming robots. They'll make or break the film. Various f/x houses are vying for the project; we'll see what happens when he says anything publicly.

(Must... clamp... hands... over... mouth...) hehe

I didn't get the impression he's focused on, or attached to, "X3" (yet) as that production hasn't officially entered pre-production.

Tom DeSanto
Producer - filmography
(In Production) (2000s) (1990s)

1. X-Men 3 (2006) (announced) (executive producer)

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0220892/
dvo did this a while ago: I think it was 2005 a few months ago?

IMDb title search on Transformers: Nothing at all, and nothing on the DeSanto's imdb resume?

michaelfaries November 12th, 2003 07:19 PM

"Transformers" hasn't been green-lit yet. And with the "X3" listing, someone jumped the gun with that posting. "(Announced)"?

Although I'm not really as big a fan compared to other members, I hope you guys get your DeSanto BG.

On the other hand, TF I did grow up on, and I hope Tom makes that first.

Sorry to be selfish.

Did anybody ask him if he would use the original voice actors?

thomas7g November 13th, 2003 11:39 PM

I don't have anything to do with Transformers. But I do have a few Robotech toys in the closet.

Oh wait... this Tom doesn't matter!

Hey Tom,

re: Robotech.

True about Tom DeSanto, but you're forgetting Tom whom we dined with on Saturday -- who is very much involved in Robotech. :) As in, the real thing (Harmony Gold, new production work, etc.). Methinks you need to drive over and visit him. He's probably fifteen miles or so from you. ;)

Eh?

Pardon me, KJ being a big Robotech fan here but. When was this announced?

Is this true Michael! If this is so, how come Robotech isn't mentioned to be "on the cards" by DeSanto in the media!

KJ wants to know about this. Is this true!!!

michaelfaries November 19th, 2003 03:17 AM

Sorry, KJ. I was referring aloud to Tom (conundrum7g) about a gentleman (also named Tom) who joined us for dinner over the Galacticon 2003 weekend who's also a BG fan... and who happens to be involved with Robotech, too. (It has nothing to do with Tom DeSanto.)

He mentioned there is a new Robotech production underway at Harmony Gold. (Woohoo!)

Wonders if there is any scifi Michael doesn't like. heheheehee

KJ November 19th, 2003 10:06 AM

Its o.k. Michael, fans either like the Macross version or the exetended Robotech version since you can buy either on DVD now!

I too have heard the "Robotech 3000?" which was to be all CGI. I was hoping for a live action movie version. Transformers was a very watchable animated series but as a movie, it remains to be seen if robots can drawn in the cinema audience into liking them? After all living machines as the stars gotta be tough to pull off.

I'd would have gone with the human drama of Robotech instead.

Agreed.
