Maquis!
Hey all you DS9/Voyager fans out there! I just saw something rather interesting. I was flipping channels tonight and ran across the old black and white "Combat!" show. For old time's sake I watched it. To my surprise they referred to the French Underground as --- Maquis!
Learn something new everyday!!! :D :muffit: |
very cool, i did not know there was a connectoin there.
thanks, nightscape |
The name 'Maqius' became a collective term for rural French Resistance fighters during WWII (one person within that group would be known as a 'Maquisard'). The word originally meant regions of high scrubland in Southeastern France & Corsica- the kind of terrain the early Resistance forces would use for concealment.
