OT: Actor John Ritter dead at 54

The world lost a comedy great last night. John Ritter would have been 55 on September 17th, BSG's 25th anniversary.

My daughter is going to be really sad when i tell her this. She loves 8 Simple Rules and According to Jim.

R.I.P John Ritter. You will be missed.

:(

kingfish September 12th, 2003 06:22 AM

I made mention of this in the other news section. It is very sad. He was only 54.

cobrastrikelead September 12th, 2003 07:24 AM

John Ritter

As in 3's Company and 8 Simple Rules? I thought 8 Simple Rules was finally falling into place and was looking forward to more of it. John Ritter made many people laugh.

Dawg September 12th, 2003 07:48 AM

This came as something of a shock. Johnny Cash I expected, John Ritter I did not. A sad day all the way around.

It's wierd. I never really paid a lot of attention to him, but in hte grand scheme of things...I loved Three's Company and Clifford the Big Red Dog on PBS will just not be the same with a new voice. It is a shame for someone to go when they are still energetic.

jewels September 12th, 2003 08:22 AM

And it's hard to see such a solid talent go.

Clifford's voice will be a huge loss to preschoolers everywhere.

I am sad to see Johnny Cash and John Ritter died. They will never be able to replace either of them.

I expected Johnny cash to go much sooner than he did after his wife died in May. Country music has lost another legend.

repcisg September 12th, 2003 09:23 AM

This is a sad day indeed.

LucianG September 12th, 2003 09:35 AM

It was such a shock when John Ritter went from being the preacher on the Waltons to Jack on Three's Company. Now, the bigger shock is that he is gone so unexpectedly. Rest in Peace, Mr. Ritter. My prayers are with your family.

Nightscape: Clifford's voice was Ritter's. If you listen close you'll be able to tell.

So sad to hear this. I watched 3's Company faithfully when it was on. My daughter used to watch Clifford too.

I was shocked, like everyone else, to hear of the deaths of John Ritter and Johnny Cash.

Lucian,

You beat me to it -- the first time I had seen John Ritter was as the preacher on the Waltons and I was equally shocked to see him transition to being Jack on Three's Company.

I always liked Johnny Cash's music but, I'm not what you'd call a diehard country music fan. I just like a lot of different types of music. With regards to TV, one of my personal favorites is his role, along with his wife, June Carter Cash, on Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. They both just looked so comfortable in the roles, like they were tailor-made.

The entertainment industry has really lost a lot of talented performers this year.

RIP Mr Cash and Mr Ritter

A Life of Laughter: Remembering John Ritter

Last Friday, when I first heard about the news that John Ritter had passed away, it really stuck with me that day... I wrote an e-mail to ABC Audience Relations and told them that John would be missed and that he had touched the lives of three generations with his talent. I passed on my condolences to his family and castmates. It made me feel a bit better putting something down in print and sending it where someone might actually get it to the people I wanted to get it to.....

Yesterday afternoon, I got a "thank you" e-mail from ABC and they said that they would pass on my sentiments to those I mentioned in my letter. They also told me that on 8/16 (Today) at 8pm, they are doing a one-hour tribute: "A Life of Laughter: Remembering John Ritter".

Make sure you tune in!

My best to all,
Bryan
