BG DVDs It's Official

I placed a thread in the submissions section as well. Check out http://thedigitalbits.com

I hate to rain on your parade, but:

"In other news, Sci-Fi Wire is reporting that Universal has plans to finally release the complete original Battlestar Galactica TV series on DVD this fall, to coincide with the debut of the new Sci-Fi miniseries version of the show and a videogame as well."

"Has plans"... same ol' same ol'. They're just using the mention to garner publicity for the mini by associating the two.

kingfish May 20th, 2003 02:56 PM

Sorry to reply

At least it is from a noted site.

Micheleh May 20th, 2003 02:58 PM

This is the 'official' part- not much, unfortunately.

"In other news, Sci-Fi Wire is reporting that Universal has plans to finally release the complete original Battlestar Galactica TV series on DVD this fall, to coincide with the debut of the new Sci-Fi miniseries version of the show and a videogame as well."

Has plans doesn't mean much- they've had plans to for a while now. They're just trying to stir interest and link the game, the dvd and the mini in people's minds. *Yawn*

Thanks for posting this- it's too bad it seems to be just another bait and switch.

Micheleh May 20th, 2003 03:03 PM

Thanks for posting the link. I just hate it when they pull that crap.

Kingfish: digitalbits is basing something on a scifiwire article, not necessarily as solid a source as if Uni's home video division had sent a press release directly to digital bits.

It's a corporation in chaos, the old righthand verse lefthand thing. Thank you so much for the hope that they might make good on the dvds at long last though.

Hopefully this time something will go in our favor.

dvo47p May 20th, 2003 06:55 PM

Kingfish this needs to be "A bird in the hand" site

As fickle as Universal (I. E. who owns it) is these days we need an official announcement, most serious Scifi web sites want a source that can be confirmed.

Remember when Scifi digitally enhanced BSG & showed it on The Scifi Channel, I'm sure the DVD's are a sure thing but Universal needs to have the 'official' announcement or press release, whatever.

Keep looking. Kingfish

The only other site I visit for DVD news is http://tvshowsondvd.com which broke the B5 season 3 story that they were being released in August.

Another site

Hi,
I was at http://tvshowsondvd.com and saw mention of BG today. Although sci-fi wire is reporting it this is a second mention of the DVDs outside of Vince/scifiman.

Regards,
Paul

kingfish May 22nd, 2003 07:05 AM

Http://tvshowsondvd.com is reporting the same thing today as well. At least both Bits and Tv Shows isn't Vince/Scifiman that is why I posted the news in the first place.

Micheleh May 22nd, 2003 11:53 AM

Here's the news bit:

"Today The Digital Bits is passing on some Battlestar Galactica news from a website called SciFiWire, an offshoot of SCIFI.COM (don't forget this, because it's important in authenticating the information). The topic is actually a Galactica-based videogame, but the article
concludes on this note:

The Battlestar Galactica game is scheduled for a
fall release for the Xbox and PlayStation 2, in conjunction with the home-video and DVD release
of the original series. SCI FI's Battlestar Galactica {the new remake miniseries - Gord} will debut in December.

Vivendi Universal Games is owned by Vivendi Universal, which also owns SCIFI.COM."

Note the part saying "The topic is actually the Galactica based video game"- nothing on the DVD.

(I merged the 2 threads on this, since the submission thread was getting replies, and they're all on the same topic.)

One Final Thought

I did e-mail someone who works at an online dealer and asked about BG DVDs. They replied that the sets were being worked on and should be ready by when the two other sites said(Namely bits and TV Shows).

I certainly see a note about video & dvd release there, Paul. Good eye.

But until Universal Home Video (or whatever their current division name is) does a press release, I will just sit on that cash stash and not get too antsy. We aren't putting it in news because anything from Skiffy is suspect at the moment. They seem a bit out of synch with the parent corp., IMO. Look how the region 4 box set the Aussies tried to do went...

OK Universal, let's get with the program and announce this much awaited dvd box set. and while you are at it: That quantity is a bit low. (the "tvshows" site had a great article title didn't they!?!) Yahrens! Oh, it's such a "forgotten" show. Heh.

Micheleh May 22nd, 2003 12:52 PM

Thanks, Jewels. I have a tendency to editorialize as I read. When I read "in conjunction with the home video and DVD release" my mind translates it into "the home video and (intended) DVD release".

;)

DVO I do agree with what you are saying. I am very sceptical of Universal's release of BG. To further COMPLICATE matters fans of Law& Order which is also a Universal product aren't getting anymore seasons except the first. There is a story at http://tvshowsondvd.com to state this point about L&O

Please DELETE this entire thread because I believe the info to be incorrect and innacurate. SORRY for posting it.
