Telemarketers DO NOT CALL ME!!!!!

for those who haven't followed the news, the ftc has passed regulation creating a "DO NOT CALL" list of phone numbers. Any business or telemarketers randomly calling to solicit business may NOT call anyone on that list.

YEA!!!!!!!!

So no more of those damn calls rining my line off the hook!

here is the nationwide website
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/edcam...all/index.html

and for californians, here is the place you sign up!

Hooray!!!!!! Finally...I can't wait until July....wish we could preregistar like CA....Oh well.
It is so annoying to have them call at 10 pm....I also think that when you hang up on them, it makes them mad and they keep calling. I have complained to the phone company so many times and even went to the extent of turning off my house phone and just use my cell now, but it will only be a matter of time before they find me again......hopefully I can get on the list before they do.
I blame it on the money hungry people at the stores and such, that always ask for your phone number and e-mail when you purchase something. They sell our numbers to these idiots. I never give out my phone number to any stores anymore. They can write me a letter if they need to contact me....

That is great. Kev can't stand it when these people call because it is sooooooo predictable. we'll just be finished with dinner and watching tv when the phone rings. we look at each other and say "Gotta be a telemarkter calling." we are always right.

Fortunately in IL? If we get a telemarketer call and we tell them to take us off their list they HAVE to. It's the law.

But, yeah, sounds like telemarketing is going to be going away.

Or else replaced with (shudder) even MORE pop-up ads!

pop ups! ewww!

that's why I LOVE mozilla instead of Netscape and Explorer. Mozilla has that button which turns off any pop up that wasn't asked for by you.

And for sites which do need me to leave that feature on, I open up explorer. :D

I LOVE IT!

Me too, I can't wait to register for the list!!

Unfortunately, Emerita, the phone company is unable to block those types of calls. They usually appear as "Unknown Caller" or "Unavailable", on Caller ID. That's because they are calling from a "PBX" arrangement not unlike the type that is in many large offices. The type, where you can call a co-worker just by dialing the extension. Those individual extensions cannot be displayed on Caller ID.

In addition, a lot of telemarketers use Auto-Dialers where they can dial every number, in a given exchange. They just start at '0000' and go to '9999'. Eventually, they will get your number. The "nice" thing is that they usually move on to the next number if you don't answer by the third ring.

one of the dirtier tricks that they use is a dialer that can dial several numbers at the same time. So the telemarketer answers the first number that picks up. Anyone picking up the phone after the telemarketer has chosen his victim gets a "click" and the phone line disconnects. :(

EVIL.

My cell phone company blocks all calls that have ID unavailable. They hear a message that says that their call will not be connected...... :D unfortunately the call still rings and that in itself is annoying.....
