LET'S Get Going-Variety Ad volunteers needed

Hello everyone:
We need to actually make this happen. For that we need people to step forward to do some tasks (VOLUNTEERS this thread is for you!)

I. We need someone here in the U.S. to take charge of the monetary end. Sorry everyone else, but the Variety folks will want paid in dollars, better if one of us does all that converting felgercarb) I am accounting-challenged, so you don't want me to be the money person.

II. We need some more participants. Is anybody active on any other small forums or active in stuff like the BSG Fan Club that could play liason with their members. (for obvious reasons, DO NOT POST THIS INFO ON SCI-FI's boards.)

III. If you are good at concise, ad-style copy, email me. I need help.
Michael's open letter is a good start but it needs to be shorter and straight at V-U management. (Yes, I did talk briefly w/him & will again once there's something to show, politics being what they are (sigh))
Repcisg: I'm running it by you regardless, hope that is OK.

IV. I need CG help for the art (I can handle type & layout but need your wonderful art in formats photoshop can cope with) please provide mesh and (do I call it texturing?) credits when we get that far: Am thinking of elements that could be good:
1) a Cylon (head or head/torso is OK),
2) vipers with pilots
3) the big G
4) sure, raiders would be nice
5) Colonial Movers :) or any of the other fleet ships
6) anyone with a hi-res BSG logo please contact me
7) any other ideas: let me know

I can be emailed off my profile page for any of this or post something here.

I'm going to call and talk to the Variety folks Monday and see what size ad the Firefly folks actually ran and what the actual cost was (or would be for the same size ad) The numbers I've seen so far make me think we are talking B&W ad at this time.

Thanks Everyone. We all count. Never surrender. Never give up.

One possible thought about the money end, we could start a no-frills bank account for the cause. Then everyone could use PayPal to make deposits into it either by account transfer or credit card. That way everyone would have official receipts of what they deposited. It would also take care of the currency conversion. Just a thought.

AO- if you know how to do this, would you be willing to do?? Paypal is a great idea for speed, though they do take a piece of the pie if I recall.

Well I'd be more than willing to do the legwork and talk to my bank. However, I may not be known well enough in the community that everyone would want to entrust me with the money. I'll do it if no one else steps forth though. As far as I know Paypal doesn't "take" any of "your" money. Their rational is they collect interest while the money is in transit. They were recently bought out by Ebay so I don't know if they've changed practices or not. It would be good for verification purposes.

Hi all,

PayPal sounds like a neat idea. I wondered how we were going to do this, and that would make it fast and simple.

AO-
If you can check out the paypal part of setting this up that would help us a lot. I only started here in September around the 24th anniversary, don't know how credible I am (as far as others are concerned) LOL. We'll see if someone more "established" steps forward in the next day or so, but we really need to act as soon as possible on all of this, so I don't know what to say...

I agree that we need to work quickly if filming begins in March. PayPal is just a third party, everyone wishing to use it to pay into the ad fund would have to register individually. There aren't any fees for signing up and using it. We would still have to have a seperate bank account to pay into though. I just thought that might be easier than dozens of people sending checks around the country, though that can be done too, this way people would have an option.

Paypal's a great idea. It'd make it easier for me being in the UK.

Alternity Orange, thanks for stepping up to bat, I don't mind that you've been here a short while, at least you are willing.

Btw, if we should get not get enough we could always donate the money to something like the Twin Towers fund in the name of BSG.

just sending this up to the top again.

I think Pay pal is the best way to go. If people don't want to do this, then I guess I could handle collecting the money. Thanks.

In just now doing a rundown of Dan's thread (quickly so I most likely missed some people or counted someone twice) we have four individuals offering a specific dollar amount totalling $300. We also have 19 individuals offering an unspecified dollar amount. If most of those do contribute an average of $50 it'll bring us to about $1200. If we get this rolling that is.

Muffit January 6th, 2003 11:27 AM

Hi,

I didn't mention amount in the other thread, but I am in for $100 also. BTW, it's probably a good idea to allow for folks to mail in a check or money order too in addition to PayPal. The more ways there are to give, the easier for us to chip in :).

:muffit:

P.S. Oooh, and please let the ad be polite and respectful :)

michaelfaries January 6th, 2003 12:14 PM

$100.00 from me, too.

That would be the "honey" part (as in "you catch more flies with honey").

We'll be polite but we'll let them know that we will not be supportive of RDM/Eick's project. We want a continuation.

Sounds good Jewels :)

The folks at Variety are awesome:
Ok:
Hollywood edition full page B&W is $3052
National edition is B&W $4055

Hollywood is sufficient for hitting the execs we want.

Dah66 and AO: can you work out who's collecting between you and get back to me here? Thanks!
Julie

AO is our colletor and should start a new thread today about how we are doing that. Time is of the essence.
*bump*

DaveC001 January 7th, 2003 12:28 PM

If we want to contribute, how do we do that?

DaveC001 January 7th, 2003 12:34 PM

Never mind. Just read the rest of the thread.

I'm in for $50 at least.

jewels January 7th, 2003 04:34 PM

I'm taking all further discussion of this offline. email me for further developments.
