Re: Buck Rogers Starfighter model (cgi)

While Buck was actually a quite campy show, well the series, not as much the movie, I love the ship designs. Still some of my favorites. Great looking Starfighter!

I wish for the series they kept a little more in line with the feel of the pilot movie. Could have been great. However I cannot watch that series the same way I can still watch BSG. In my opinion, BSG was not campy... Buck Rogers was campy (intentionally so in my opinion).
Looking forward to seeing the progress Taranis.

Just got back from Spain ....

The Shoulder has improved but I have a head cold now :( ..

anyway thanks for the replies ..

I agree with David regarding the campiness of BR.. I read even Gil Gerard fought tooth and nail with the writers to do more (man out of time type stories) but the it was never to be.. he even called Buck a smart arse :)

Re: Buck Rogers Starfighter model (cgi)

Lovin' it!!!

Would you consider creating an alternate canopy for the 4 seater version of the Starfighter? I think all they did for the physical shooting model was attach a different sized canopy. All of the other dimensions for the ship were the same. Plus on that version the glass was always shiny black so you never saw the interior cockpit on those miniatures.

Just a thought.

I have to say Taranis that I love all your work. I have downloaded the landing bay and hoping to do a render or two (or 3 or 4... etc). I'm normally a 3d Studio MAX guy, but I started working with Cinema 4d which interfaces well with both (LW and MAX). As well as having a great plugin to allow you to use Poser props and figures with all the morphs and transformations still able to be animated. I'm starting to love that program.

I have something else I'm working on now, but as soon as I render something with any of your meshes, you will be the first to know.

Can't wait to see what you do next,

Dave

That's awesome haveing loved your animations and rendered art I am delighted that your going to use it .. the revised bay will be better and more faithful when I get back to it:)

Re: Buck Rogers Starfighter model (cgi)

That bay is a tricky thing, as the exterior shot/matte painting did not quite match the interior shots of the shuttle and Vipers approaching. I know you will do a great job with it though.

Okay... so aside from the 4 seater, how about the older starfighter that the prisoner escaped in? The guy who could change the molecular formation of anything with his touch. If I remember right he had some bizarre scifi afro!

Not serious about that last one, although it did appear in the series. Had a couple extra wings and stuff here and there. I do have to say that I love the designs of space craft from that late 70's era of scifi. Vipers, Raiders, Starfighters, Marauders, X-Wings... All beautiful craft.

if so .. I have been asked to make that version too .. but seen as it will be a slight alteration between them all using the orignal Starfighter . I will be adding it :)

Re: Buck Rogers Starfighter model (cgi)

That's the one alright. Definately looks like the same starfighter with a few additions. I think it worked well in the story to give the impression of an older starfighter. A nice touch by the model/fx guys on the show, as they could have used the regular starfighter model to save some time and money.

Re: Buck Rogers Starfighter model (cgi)

Hey there Taranis!

Love seeing the 4 seater. As a kid watching the show I didn't care for that version as much, but now I love the idea of alternate seating versions. I don't have a reference pic, but somehow in my mind I thought there was a little space between the edge of the canopy and the side cylinders. That there was a little of the flat surface still showing. I could be wrong though. Maybe I'll go search the web to find some pics.

Definately love it though. While Buck does not hold up series-wise for me the way TOS BSG does, I still love the spaceship designs. Starfighters, Mauraders, Draconia... even the Cruiseship to the Stars/Searcher was awesome. And of course Hawk's ship. Those FX guys at Universal Hartland did amazing things in the time, money and technology they had.

EDIT...

evermind... did find a picture on a site and sure enough they go to the edge! Sorry I doubted you good man!
