** BG ("needs a title/description") - contest image

** Describe the image **

This is a pseudo-"contest" of sorts: A "Battlestar Galactica" inspired image is posted below. In 125 words or less, create a story describing the backstory, dialogue, history, plot summary... whatever you choose to write about the image. Examples of past images with text stories can been seen here and here.

There is no established timeframe for the image. The events depicted could have taken place before "Saga of a Star World" pilot episode or after "The Hand of God" episode or in-between.

The deadline for submissions here is 14 December 2002. All submissions must be made within this thread to qualify.

On 15 December 2002, I'll pick my favorite title/story and generate a new version of the picture with the text added. The winner's name will be added to the image as well. The image will be posted within this thread. By participating in this thread, you are granting permission for your name/text to be added if you win.

Multiple submissions are welcomed.

Here's the image:

1152x864 sized image here. (.jpg format; 179k)

Remember, please provide:

- TITLE
- STORY IDEA TO DESCRIBE IMAGE (125 words or less)

NOTE: This "contest" is an experiment. I hope that other artists will join me in this artistic endeavor. It's fun to create artwork; it's fun, too, for others to interpret the work with their own thoughts and feelings. Please remember that if you need them, 3D CG models are available for free download from BattlestarPegasus.com's Gallery section. (2D art submissions on Colonial Fleets are welcomed, too.)

Also: "Contest" images within this "Colonial Art" section on Colonial Fleets are being denoted with "**" in the subject line. Additionally, this "contest" is not sponsored officially by Colonial Fleets.

Btw, I know the image is dark. (My apologies.) I guess I was going for the "darkness" of deep space within the picture. ;)

Title: Evidence

The Galactica is seen closing in on an ancient and abandoned space craft her patrols have found. Early landing parties have identified the language used by the original inhabitance as pre-Colonial, needless to say those on the Galactica are besides themselves with excitement. Many have taken the news as clear evidence of the thirteenth tribe, vindication of Adama and justification for the pearls they have faced.

As the Galactica draws closer the Bridge crew are awe struck by the dimensions of the great ship, here before them floats a clear evidence of mans reach into the heavens and proof (they hope) they are truly following the right path.

Title: Sacrifice

Description: As the Cylon Empire extended throughout the galaxy, it's technology was augmented by those worlds that fell before it's might. This gave rise to the creation of huge ships know as Dreadnoughts. Each of these vessels was larger than four Colonial battlestars and carried enough firepower to render an entire planet to ash.

Commander Apollo stared out of the Galactica's forward viewer at one of these nightmarish machines. Centons earlier, he had sent his only son and an elite group of colonial commandos on a mission to disable the mammoth ship's internal systems. Judging by the dreadnought's shadowed exterior, he assumed the mission was a success. Knowing that he might never see his son again, Apollo gave the order to fire.

Thanks!

Dave

Title:The Rescue Of Starbuck

Ten Yahrens had passed since the greatest warrior in the fleet was left on a barren planet. Scientists aboard the Galactica have manufactured a ship capable of overwhelming any Cylon threat. Commander Adama has decided to attempt a rescue if the warrior is still alive. The new ship is capable of hyperspace jumps and is able to encompass both the Galactica and trailing Vipers. Major Apollo has decided to lead the strike wing along with his newly promoted son, Lieutenant Troy. Adama is sceptical about both members of his family being on such a dangerous mission.

Last of the cylons....

Deep in a hidden nebula, the last of the ancient cylon basestars flees it's progeny.... for it's crew are the last refugees of the reptilian race that created the machine menace that has all but destroyed the human race, and their own....

After a thousand yahrens, will they make peace with man, or will their wounded pride make them enemies?

Final decision to be made shortly.

The winner? Ken Thomson.

I liked all of the submissions. (Even your silly one, Darrell. ;) ) Ken managed to nail what I was going after: The McQuarrie basestar design, hence older Cylons or something focused around that.

I'll generate a new image with the text in the next day or so.
