Ulysses

Remember this one Darrell?

This was a FARRRRRRRRRRRRRR away fill in ship for the 2003 miniseries. At the time it was a good thing since it was not textured. I dug it out of mothballs and began texturing it recently. I'll keep on top of it to see if i can finish this one of.

I built the thing a lonnnnnnnnnnnnng time ago. Just a concept Colonial vessel.

You can see the one container is getting there and the rest is far from over.

:)

Don,

Looks interesting. This ship looks to be some type of freighter or 'container' ship. Was the idea to use it for supplies or fuel?

Titon June 25th, 2006 06:46 PM

Hi Pete.

I think when i came up with it we were thinking water tanker.

:)

BST June 25th, 2006 06:51 PM

Well, that's fuel. :D

Ain't goin' nowhere without it. ;)

I'm interested to see how this turns out.

:)

Me to since me and texturing don't usually get along but i think it's time to step up to the plate.

Of course since i put the word "tylium" on top i would imagine we'll have to convert it to a fuel tanker.

Kaboom!

:D

Darrell Lawrence June 25th, 2006 07:32 PM

I remember that one very clearly ;)

How updated is it compared to the copy you sent me?

And did you ever add that water spicket on the back?

Virtually the same. I haven't played with it in years. Just thought i'd get something textured. Remember i'm a modelor first and foremost but with the advancements in UV mapping it's pretty much a piece of cake to texture nowdays.

No "spicket" on back.

;)

Titon June 26th, 2006 08:29 AM

Added a bit more work to the top piece.

This is why i hate texturing. Takes forever! Might have to redo the scratches on the one end here. Bit to wild.

Stevew June 27th, 2006 05:33 AM

Great stuff as always Don

Titon June 27th, 2006 08:49 AM

Thanks for checking in Steve.

I am here every day, I just lurk a lot
:rotf:

Inzane June 27th, 2006 07:05 PM

Wow.nice details

Griffworks June 27th, 2006 07:11 PM

Whoa! :yikes: Nice job!

I imagine it wouldn't be much of a big deal for someone to convert her to either tylium or water. Well, in my universe, anyhow.

How big is she supposed to be? Got any ortho views? :)

Very true.

No ortho views yet. Still need to finish up the textures.

:)

Cool. It's good to see some of your WIP again, Titon. :D Texturing looks good so far.

I thought you all were talking about putting a spigot on the back of the film can ship way back when. Glad to see there's another sort of tanker entirely.

Two part question for you all: Did vipers and capital ships all fuel with tylium? (that's what I recall) What is the solium that they were looking for leaks of in SoaSW? Is it fuel, fuel by-product or something like hydrogen which can just be volatile by itself?

Titon June 28th, 2006 06:56 AM

Here's a couple shot's to put it into perspective.

http://www.7thmillenia.com/don/ulysses6.jpg

You can see the shuttle on the landing pad in the center of the ship. The pad drops down into the hull and it can be refueled from there. Fueling shuttles to the Galactica can take on fuel here and transport it.

http://www.7thmillenia.com/don/ulysses7.jpg

Here's a far off shot. You can see the shuttle in the middle sitting on the pad. I would say this ship is comparable in size to the Gemini Freighter.

Back to work on texturing.

:)

Titon....this is a GREAT ship. I am really enjoying seeing these updates. Interesting how she was designed for TNS, but she is so in the character of TOS. She deserves prominence.....

How would she fair under fire from a Cylon patrol, whilst trying to catch up to the fleet, until the Vipers could come to her rescue ?

I'd love to watch that.........:)

Ernie it wasn't designed for the new series. I modeled it almost 4 years ago. Just never got around to texturing it.

When i say it was used as a fill in ship that's exactly it. It was something put into the Fleet wayyyyyyyy off in the distance to fill in.

Darrell Lawrence June 28th, 2006 03:45 PM

ernie, this ship was used in the same way the Defender was in the new series- Not made for it, but there it was

ernie90125 June 28th, 2006 04:08 PM

ah ok......

I hope she'll be worked into a TOS feature too.....a stunning work like that deserves it !

OK I'm confused, then. This was made for the Miniseries, right?

Did it appear in the RTF of the Miniseries? Obviously, as you said, it was made for background filler - which is a shame given it's very interesting design - but if it was used in the Mini, do you know approximately where it shows up? Do you know if they're still using it as background filler?

If it never made it on-screen, never mind. Pity, tho. Almost as bad is if showing on screen, but not being able to make out much in the way of details.

Silly Trivia Time!

Did you know that, aside from the aforementioned Defender making it in to TNS, there's also the Star Trek TOS Enterprise and the Sulaco from "Aliens"? Gotta love when the guys who do the model work (CGI or physical) for a show are just as much a bunch of geeks as the rest of us and love putting these ships in as "In-Jokes". :D

Darrell Lawrence June 28th, 2006 06:28 PM

No. It was not made for the mini.

Don was making it for a Continuation at the time.

It and the Defender were given to certain people around the same time, thus they had the models for "ship filler" in the RTF for the mini and series.

Awesome

Awesome Work... thanks!

Stevew June 29th, 2006 06:14 AM

Great stuff Don, we need to see more of your excellent stuff
S :salute:

Titon June 29th, 2006 07:42 AM

Thanks Steve.

Here's today's little nugget. I dropped the shuttle landing platform into the ship. Once the shuttle is there the platform rotates and the shuttle can be pulled into a landing bay area.

:)

Stevew June 29th, 2006 12:01 PM

That is just too kewl Donnie, someone should be paying you to do this
:) :) :) :)

Titon June 29th, 2006 12:08 PM

Thanks Steve.

Once i get the thing textured fully i'll try to animate a landing sequence.

Stevew June 29th, 2006 12:15 PM

Can't wait

mikala June 30th, 2006 09:15 PM

Some fine work here!
The animation is eagerly awaited!
