Still the same old basestar

... but at least its reworked.

I finally got fed up with the old basestar model that's been floating around for years and decided something had to be done. Since I knew this upgrade wasn't going to be a canon work, or anything like it, I decided that I wasn't going to spend more than 2 hours on trying to improve it. I ended up spending three hours. The first image is how the model rendered out before I started screwing around with it. The second is the rework.

As I said, its not canon by any means but its a lot more acceptable for medium shots. I guess it could be considered the basestar equal to the ABRaider. My version of that isn't really canon either although it was the best version I could build at the time with the source material that was available.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the final result. When I have more time, I'll tackle the textures and see if I can optimize it somehow. Right now, the model renders like an absolute pig! It really sucks up the CPU and sucks it up bad, worse than the raider rework.

GREAT images.

Will you be making this model available as a mesh for others to download ?

I really like the pictures. There's nothing to say it wouldn't be right it fan works, its just a slightly different design to the Basestars that happened to encounter to Galactica, in the episode we saw.

I like it........

Very nice go at filling in the "blank" spots!
Now a nice render of it going up against the Galactica

That looks great. One thing I was always curious about these digital models, was if you could do kind of a reverse Tron effect, and bring them into reality somehow, how big would they be? Would this thing be the size of a football, a pizza, a car, is it life size?

Would it be big enough to say, have a shot following a Raider, into the interior of the basestar?

JJ,

In this case, I'd likely have the basestar model for a medium shot and have the raiders shown flying towards it from the rear, then show a frontal of their approaching, an interior of the cockpit, and then another rear of the raider going towards a hanger bay model. The last could be built to allow for a follow through into the interior of the bay.

I'm not yet sure how I'll release the mesh. Its technically still in the development/upgrade stage but the usual suspects can have a copy if they wish, like everything I do.

So how big is the model if it were real, like the size of a pizza?

The original computer model was based on the old plastic model. That's about 8 inches across.
