Alpha Squadron

I am honored by Peter Noble’s decision to make me head of the Alpha Squadron, and I thank him. I was curious about his decision and he assured me that my enthusiasm was what helped him make his choice. I only hope my enthusiasm for the fight will serve all of us in this endeavor, to bring back the show we all love, and to end the Moore/Eick/Hammer version forever.

The council has decided that our primary mission as Alpha Squadron is to hit the advertisers decisively. I will be sending out two advertisers to write via snail mail, and two to write via e-mail around the 1st, and 15th of every month. It is up to us not only to write, but also to spread the word to other bulletin boards of shows, which are not being shown by Sci Fi Channel, where the fans are unhappy with the channel. The content of the letters is to be confirmed.

Camouflage, and Ian_W359, and others of you who are outside of the U.S., in addition to e-mailing advertisers, we’ll be depending on you to seek out new Bulletin boards to gain new recruits. In addition to BSG bulletin boards, it is ordered that you seek out boards related to shows with fans that are unhappy with the Sci Fi Channel. These would include any show, which Sci Fi is no longer showing. There is a thread started by Peter Noble, which lists these shows. It can be found here:

http://www.colonialfleets.com/forums...&threadid=3001

I would also include any boards of “V”; they may be sympathetic to our cause, as they have just won a continuation.

All of us are also being ordered to register at http://www.icq.com so that we can havelive chats. After you have done so, please e-mail me your ICQ number.

Also as a standing order whenever Sci Fi Channel is being watched to write down any and all advertisers you have viewed and send the lists to me at jjrakman@yahoo.com

We are also being ordered to print up flyers and distribute them to the general public. The content of the flyers will be provided. If you have any suggestions please let me know. As always, my e-mail address is jjrakman@yahoo.com Remember the ultimate goal here is to derail the Moore/Eick/Hammer production, and successfully promote a continuation. Nothing else matters.

Also pleas make sure you subscribe to this thread so you are notified when new information comes up.

Targeting advertisers

Is a waste of time, the Farscape fans are much better organized and have had no joy sending letters to company's that advertise on The Scifi Channel.

There are too many sponsors so it is ineffective. Want to target someone hit the new head of Universal.

this was reported by snstara on the Cylon Alliance board, letters to advertisers do count

Farscape fans were pissed off enough about "Scare Tactics" to start writing advertisers. The thread is here:

http://www.watchfarscape.com/forums/...5&pagenumber=1

The short version is that letters to Prestone, Proctor & Gamble, and Energizer got direct responses: they pulled their ads from "ST".

The ratings for "Scare Tactics" were:

3/31-4/6: 1.6
4/7-13: 1.4
4/14-20: 1.2
4/21-25: 0.8

Notice the downward spiral. I'll try to "scare" up more recent ratings when I can, but if it's anything like this...

FYI, "Tremors" has gone from a 2.0 to a 0.8 in the same time span - probably why Skiffy's shelved it till June.
Advertisers are less ego-centric than Network or Studio bosses: Consumers matter because shareholders get upset when consumers buy less product.

Scare Tactics

One doesn't need letters to realize the show stinks. Jewels I believe two lawsuits may have something to do with the advertisers dropping off.

jewels May 16th, 2003 12:37 PM

Kingfish, bringing back BSG the way we want it is like eating an elephant, it can only be done one bite at a time and all of us will have to somehow participate in the elephant feast.

I'm just trying to encourage the ones that want to try this phase that it can have impact.

It will take participation. And it will take the attitude of giving advertisers a friendly heads up warning: Slylie will point to our fan sites' traffic, fan club membership all to say folks will be watching. We need to warn the advertisers that they are being sold a load of felgercarb, that the fans are heavily against this thing. And the opposition mounts every day.

Flying Missions

I have already been doing that on my own and spreading the word.

Dawg May 16th, 2003 01:16 PM

Good, Kingfish,

so tell us if you've gotten responses from any of your letters, and what they're saying.

I've been trying to get the word out around here, too, but short of standing on the roof shouting I'm not having a lot of luck reaching people. The TV columnist at the local paper hasn't responded to my e-mail (I'm planning on another this weekend, maybe being a little blunter).

I'm hoping for some input and advice from my fellow Alpha Squadron members - you included - that have been doing this for awhile.

Jewels is right - if there is going to be an impact made on either the production, the airing, or any other aspect of this, as many people as we can get have to be involved. We've already discovered that the neo opposition were mostly clones - let's capitalize on that and use that information to our advantage. I can't help but think advertisers would perk up their ears if they hear that 1) the fanbase they thought was there was phony and 2) the legitimate fanbase will shun their products if they advertise on this show.

Thoughts, anybody?

We will know soon enough. I just saw that a buddy of mine joined who has a site.

Prestone

Recon they pulled ads because of ratings tanked from 1.6 to 0.8?

jjrakman,

Just registered @ ICQ. I'll PM you with the ICQ#.

If anyone wants out, then that's up to them.

If anyone still wants to fight for our show then head on out with Alpha and spread the word.

A lot of people still don't know that the show is a remake. I went on a board and people were outraged when I told them Starbuck was now a girl!

No one ever got anywhere sitting on their ass.

I want my Battlestar Galactica!

Regards to all the warrior faithful,

Peter

Does anyone here "belong" to any of the Yahoo groups devoted to BSG?

I did a search for the first time and found 35 groups with BSG as subject. Some I'll probably ignore ("adult" groups), but I thought I'd post a message or two unless some of us are already there.

I guess people don't care unless it happens to their favorite show than they come running.

I've been spreading the word as well - on my Hardy Boys site, even (I own it so I figure I can grouse about BG if I want to!), on a Pern site I've belonged to for some time - and a few other boards where I see BG mentioned.

It's slow work but the more people we tell, definitely the better!
