Asking me to pick one favorite would be an impossible task. Instead I'm going to make my answer what I was going to do in a separate thread which is list the favorite Christmas CDs I always play at this time of year by artists.
#1. John Rutter/Cambridge Singers. John Rutter has written some of the most beautifully moving choral Christmas songs of the last half century that as performed by the Cambridge Singers always sends a chill through me. "Star Carol" and "Jesus Child" in particular. The CD "Christmas Day In The Morning" features these original compositions and some lesser known choral Christmas works while "Carols For The Chrismas Season" features more traditional carols. #2. Julie Andrews. She has the most angelic singing voice when it comes to Christmas music. She's done three Christmas albums that always get extensive play from me. Sadly, since her singing voice was ruined a few years ago by a botched operation, we'll never hear her sing that good again. #3. Canadian Brass. The premiere brass group in the world has done several Christmas CDs, some more serious in tone (such as their pairing with the St. Patrick's Cathedral) and others that are more lighthearted in vein (like "A Canadian Brass Christmas" with whimsical versions of popular fare like "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer" and "Frosty The Snowman") #4. Charlie Brown Christmas. The greatest animated Christmas special ever spawned an equally magnificent soundtrack spotlighting the magnificent Vince Guaraldi. #5. John Williams/Boston Pops Christmas CD. Christmas is the time when there are so many rich opportunities to hear the sound of the holiday and its meaning expressed in music. I never tire of it. |

:) Also on my list are "What Child is This?", "O Come All Ye Faithful", as well as "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town" (including the version by Bruce Springsteen), "Holly, Jolly Christmas", "Frosty the Snowman", "Deck the Halls" .... oh, I might as well say all of them !! :D (Guess I was a real big help with this, eh? ;) ) |
There are so many and it's really a shame that you only hear them at Christmas.
Maybe we'd be better off if we heard them more often then just once a year..perhaps we'd keep the spirit all year long..anyway.. 1..I'll Be Home For Christmas 2...White Christmas 3...Any of Kenny G's ..James Galway..or R. Carlos Nakai Christmas albums |

here's the lyrics to anothe favorite of mine by Jeff Foxworthy:
Redneck 12 days of Christmas Wow, somebody done been to the WalMart! (Jeff) Man, this is the stuff I got for Christmas. Well you cleaned up! Whadya git? Five flannel shirts Four big mud tires Three shotgun shells Two hunting dogs ... And some parts to a Mustang GT. Hey Bubba, you got gypped -- there's 12 days to Christmas. (Jeff) I know that, I got it covered. Look over in the corner. That's yours too? Yea! Chorus: Twelve-pack of Bud Eleven Wrastling tickets Ten o' Copenhagen Nine years probation Eight table dancers Seven packs of Redman Six cans of Spam Five flannel shirts Four big mud tires Three shotgun shells Two hunting dogs ... And some parts to a Mustang GT. Man, this ain't normal Christmas presents! No, they're redneck gifts! Redneck gifts? Yea, you know, like if you buy your wife earrings that double as fishing lures. Or, if you can burp the entire chorus of "Jingle Bells" Perhaps if you think "The Nutcracker" is something you did off a high-dive. Or, if you've ever misspelled something in Christmas lights. Or, if you leave cold beer and pickled eggs for Santa Claus. What's wrong with that? I didn't say anything wrong with it... It's hard to beat... Well, you can't really consider it a Christmas 'less you go down to the penitentiary and visit your mama. You're not listenin' to me! Get the car key outta your ear. That's where the nine years probation comes in... I'm gonna do it for ya again. Now listen... |

Boogie! Ian W359 |
Hi,
One of my most favorite Christmas songs is the instrumental that radio stations play frequently at Christmas time. A lot of people are familiar with the song, but do not know the name of the artist or the title of the song. Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24 (Instrumental) by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra Scroll down to the "Listen to Samples" section at this link: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000002JX6/ Regards, Nathan |
I also adore a very hard to find hymn called "Coventry Carol". I learned this hymn when I was in chorus in high school. I had been looking for it for years after that and last year I had the good fortune to find it on a CD.
