Hi Here is my first picture where I have use a terrain and not space . I used Terragan
to help with the land image .

This is my first orbit background with Terragen, I have called it Baltars world where he is stranded after the Hand Of God episode TOS in my fanfic. The Engine flares are just for the WIP :D

Crimson Viper Mk.II BY Dave Charnow & Brandon Bray and the Viper : HGibbens
I changed the colour of the Crimson Viper from ... well crimson to the silver grey because I don't like the colour when rendered in my images.

I updated the picture placing a little dirt on the meshes and I things look a little better :D

Great pix. Just one tiny nitpick on the Cylon...shouldn't there be some control surfaces be visible on the Raider up and functioning, since it's in an atmosphere?

Where's the terrain, BTW?

gmd3d
March 19th, 2005, 04:36 AM
I don't know what the control surface look like and the planet was designed in terragen , the lake and the land is also designed .
I will try to add some form of control surface is there any picture to help I might be able to draw tham in :D

thanks Spike.
The new prog is a lot of fun and I am happy to be able to work on my own background for space and planets. It give me more control of what I want to depict
in the images.

I also want to do a picture from my fanfic , seeing baltar been left behind on a planet
and watching the departing shuttle etc :)

Taranis - these are great. I know it's been mentioned on another thread but what software are you using to create these? I do bits and pieces of production work (logos and such, you can't really call it art) at work and use Illustrator, PSP, and Photoshop but would like to move beyond them.

Keep up the good work and keep posting them here. I think I'm going to use the one with the ships for my wallpaper at home!

Rigel I am a Truespace user and the other prog I use are DOGWAFFLE an art program I use to have to add the engine flares later with that one. But I started to use the Lenflare in TS and I am happy with the results .
A little more fine tuneing and I will be a lot better.
My pc is not powerful enough to add lesflares to Stevews Galcatica mesh it has frozen a number of time.

You can download Truespace3.2 for free if you want to get into this side of thing , but i am still a learner and can only help abit if yor decided to go for it.

you have to register but that ok and the ts forums are handy :D
I would like photoshop myself it seem to be a well used program but I think artforms come in many packages and a few member here have done some great stuff using your tools. If you have done art with them and in the bsg universe please post :D

Looking MUCH better lighting wise on that space pic.

As for that terragin one, use it as a background image and have your Vipers flying in there. Try to match the lighting/shadows up with what the terragin pic has ;)

They really are great pix!!! On control surfaces: I used to think they existed as we thought of them as well, but there is no need of mechanical control surfaces on either of the viper or raider.

If we assume that the way they fly in space (as in a fluid) is made possible by somehow using gravitons as resistance, then you would be able to do the same in a deep gravity well. This use of gravity as a resisting media also gives us more understanding as to Tigh and Adama’s admonition to the viper pilots approaching Arcta to stay out of the world’s gravity field.

Welcome.

Its mostly my own thought. I have been a fan since the show aired, but the real detailed thinking is only about three years old. It all started when I first heard the announcement about TNS. I got into a debate with some friends who thought that the bad science, bad thought, and bad writing that made up a good deal of TOS could stand to be corrected. They challenged me to take one thing, and show scientific plausibility, social justification, and purposeful design on the part of the show’s creators, without contradicting anything else seen or heard in the show. I accepted, and found that the task lead to doing it for the entire show. So, for the last three years, I have poured over every line of dialogue, looked at every scene in detail, and spent hours reading scientific journals and books covering everything from M-Theory to bio-robotics to pulsed-plasma power generation to wine making techniques. My research has been very rewarding, and I've been successful for the most part. I am oh so slowly creating a web site with my conclusions, and who knows, may someday publish it all as a book. Till then I mostly share it here...

Sorry to tell you but there is no definate size to DS9. Trust me, the arguements have been raging back and forth for years. The DS9 Tech Mannual is also horrendously wrong with most ships sizes. Visual evidence in the show also varies almost week to week. One of Treks big downfalls is inconsistant FX. For example the Klingon Bird-of-Prey has been seen any where from 50m to 700m long :Nsad:

This site is probably the best place to get an answer http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/ or the people on this forum http://scn.infopop.cc/eve/ubb.x can help you out. Yeh, I've seen it. I'm just warning you all that if you use some offical dimentions, it still may not look right.

If you look at this page you'll see what I mean http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/articles/bop-size.htm

Here is a whole sub-directory on problems like that one. http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/articles.htm

I'm just a Trekkie trying to warn you of sizing problems in Trek. And the best people to talk to about them are on that forum I posted above (PS I wasnt trying to advertise that forum, just help you out. If its Trek, they know it)

And thanks Steve that is a great site, just like most sites, the Trek sizing may not be right.

The same problems exist in Galactica. The issue is particularly bad in shows and films that used the old multi shot composite method to create the ships, which is where the issue of the Bird-of-Prey comes in (all shows before 3rd season of ST:TNG). My problem with Trek is that for years, even after they had gone totally digital, they still seemed to have problems with this. B-5 really pioneered space effects with structured model sizes that accruately interacted.

"T" I would love to see more light from the right, just enough to see some detail
sorta like this one that Fab's did

I missed the vipers the first time I looked at this. Maybe you could drop them a little so that they are angeling up toward the landing. Or Steve's suggestion about more light might do the trick. Nice work all the same. :salute:

Will do .. When I ordered LW I foolishly went for the one without the hardcopie manual and went for the disc copie ... And I hate having to read it on the pc...I will have to order a hard copie.

--JJR

Both craft look as if they are equipped with control surfaces. Maybe as back-up in an atmosphere if the primary system should fail?
