View Full Version : OT: The most amazing news from my little girl...

My daughter gave me the most /amazing/ news the other day, in typical reluctant and humble fashion :)
It seems my tiny little girl (well, she used to be tiny  ), was just nominated to be in the running for Homecoming Queen of her high school!!!
She was late coming out when I went to pick her up from school, and after some questioning, she said, "oh, they called me to the office. I thought I had done something wrong. They wanted me to be some kind of queen thingie, or escort, or something, where I dress up all fancy and a boy escorts me across the field in the football game. Then people take all kinds of picture of me and stuff."
What did she tell them? To their utter disbelief, she said, "Nah, no thanks". To which they replied, "Don't you know what kind of honor this is? You might very well be elected homecoming queen!!"
... Her answer? ...
"I don't wanna sit thru a dumb football game."

Wow Muffit ..........
I am impressed, not because she thinks football is dumb. But that she didn't feel the "need " to be homecomming queen. I so wanted to be queen or a cheerleader because I so wanted acceptance. It has taken me a lot of years to find out what she already knows(I am not there yet) Wonderful!!!

ROTFLMFO Warrior! (laughing my fur off ;) )
Thanks Rowan!!! Oh wait -- I thought you meant me!! :wtf: :D :D :D
Just kidding!
Wow, thanks Julix! You must be so sweet!! ;)
OMG --- I have to admit, I made a BIG boo-boo... guess I misunderstood my daughter... she was NOT nominated for homecoming queen -- SHE WON!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hijolemano!!!! They announced her name today on the loudspeaker, and all her friends asked her why she didn't tell them!
Somebody pick me up off the floor -- no wait! Leave me here -- it's SAFER!!!!
And she turned THAT down!!! My gosh, even my pet GROUND HOG would've said yes!!! (And I don't even HAVE a ground hog... :D :D :D ).
Sheesh, parents are always the last to know...

Wow! Your daughter really has her priorities in order Muffit. It nice to see that there are some girls that still care about things that are superficial. Give her a big hug for me!

WTG, Muffit's pup! :D
Amazing that they didn't go crazy searching for a new HCQ. That's sure to be one for the history there at that school.

Holy crap! That really is nuts!
Being only a year removed from high school, I can understand what a ridiculous deal turning down a homecoming nomination would be, much less turning down the actual TITLE.
That girl certainly has bigger cajones than I do. Who needs acceptance in high school when you have all the self-confidence in the world? Jeez.
Be sure to shake your daughter's hand for me. She definately sounds like a lady going places.

Good on the lass!
Although I'm sure you would have loved to see your daughter as Homecoming Queen, you must be very proud that she had the strength of character, and the confidence to say "No thanks" to what sounds like a huge honor.(I'm not American, so Homecoming is a strange custom to me)
Indeed, the fact that she was elected speeks volumes of what her fellow students think of her. Clearly she is a gem of a girl! :)
BRG tips his cap to your strong willed princess. And to you Muffit for raising such a fine daughter. :salute:

Way to go Muffit Jr!!! There is WAY more to life than a popularity contest!
And, muffit, isn't this a new school system for her? Didn't you move recently? Even more admirable that she won AND that she was not interested, adjusting to a new school system is NOT easy!
