"The new Battlestar Galactica is not a bad show but they should of called it something else." That is the feeling from the crew behind the original series. Most fans agree that the new Galactica is a decent show but it completely disregards what the original show from the 70's had accomplished. But wait... there's hope.

For years there has been talk of Glen Larson making a feature film of Battlestar Galactica featuring the original cast. You may ask how that's possible considering that there is a new TV series. It's actually quite simple, Glen Larson owns the theatrical rights to Battlestar Galactica.

Last night at the Buck Rogers DVD release event Larson told the IESB that there is quite a bit of interest in making a new film featuring the original cast. He knows that both Dirk Benedict and Richard Hatch are willing participants in the venture. He does not know what storyline they will follow but that they plan to be faithful to the original series and to the fans. "We have some pretty good ideas and it will be a great journey to bring BSG back," Larson said.

Regarding other projects in the works such as Knight Rider, Magnum P.I. and Fall Guy, he explained that they still don't know what direction they will take and that they don't have any scripts quite yet. He does promise that in the very near future he will have some Knight Rider news to share with us all.

Stay tuned to the IESB for future updates!

So there you go!

That's the best news Battlestarwise I have heard in a long time! I din't expect to hear it either which makes it all the sweeter.

Maybe the new series may actually be helping bring us a TOS based Continuation.

The new show isn't helping or hurting us in other words there can be two versions, ie they can coexist in peace hopefully we can also do that.

Has Lang spoken about this yet?

What happens if I "wait for cable" on this movie?

Hi all,

Sorry for the little while away from Fleets, I was on a short break to Mallorca, Spain.

I was overjoyed to see news from Glan Larson. It is a shame that the article didn't go further, and ask some more direct questions. Just reamfirms my belief we need a really really good interview with him !!!

In Richard's newsletter, he says "There's still chance that he might still own the theatrical rights, but no one is really sure about this."

I thought Glen had said that he had bought the rights back to a movie ? Has Richard misunderstood ?

A slightly confused Ernie90125.....

If the original BATTLESTAR GALACTICA were to be revived, what direction would you want it to go in? Would it just be a one-shot reunion movie deal? Would Galactica find Earth, or just continue playing cat-and-mouse with the Cylons, or both, or neither? Would Galactica find the Mothership from CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND? Or maybe they would run into the Earth ship "Searcher" and meet BUCK ROGERS? (I'll bet Starbuck would have more fun with Princess Ardala than Buck ever did!)

All I ask is a resolution to the Cylon conflict, from there they could decide to go back to Caprica or find Earth or whatever.

I would say trilogy.

This sounds like a paraphrase of the same story Michael Faries quoted, saying 'at leat now this can go public'. Either that, or Larson's repeating himself.

"He knows that both Dirk Benedict and Richard Hatch are willing participants in the venture. He does not know what storyline they will follow but that they plan to be faithful to the original series and to the fans. "

That's just conjecture on the part of Sanchez, not a quote from Larson. If Larson had talked to Richard about appearing in a remake, he'd have said in his newsletter.

"We have some pretty good ideas and it will be a great journey to bring BSG back," Larson said."

Blah blah. Talk about vague. I don't believe anything from this man until I see action. He's promiosed and hinted too many times.

Brutally honest opinion Micheleh, but also sadly I suspect quite possibly true....

It angers me because I really care about all my friends here online, and don't like to see them being played. That's how I read this- poppa L just says enough to stay on the map, and does nothing. I, personally, will believe him when he has as much film in the can as Richard.

I have seen the most loyal, dedicated fanbase I know get treated like a nonentity by a major studio, and then a tool and personal cachet by the one person who has the power to rectify the situation. If he has these rights, then he needs to bloody well use them. Enough of the talk and no action. I, personally, think he needs to be called to the carpet. Either explain why it isn't happening and do something about it, or turn the rights over to someone who will. Either way, I want to tell him to quit playing everyone around, they're good people and deserve some feedback and honesty after years of unrequited loyalty.

Hear, hear, Michelleh. Very well said.

My friends, I must concur with Michelleh on this. Cautious optimism should be our watchword.

Richard Hatch at least DID film (quite professionally) an idea for a continuation story...and it was tossed aside out of hand, by TPTB.

I agree now that GAL should be "called out onto the carpet" and asked to fully explain what the hang up is with Galactica. Time waits for no one, my friends. And too much time is going by. I agree that good people, fans of the original show, and potential new fans of the original show, are being strung along by empty promises....and it kills me to see some people hanging onto those words as if they were mana from God Himself. Hope is a beautiful thing, my friends, but please, do not rest entirely upon it. If things turn out counter to that hope (i.e. no continuation movie ever gets made) then you will find yourselves hurthing even more than you've already been. And trust me, I've already counseled a few people about their feelings on this matter....it is not a pretty sight.

Personally, until I hear it straight from GAL as to what's going on...it's all "vaporware" to me. I remain cautiously optimistic. I can afford "blind faith" no more.

Respectfully, and with friendly admontion,
Martok2112 (Ambassador of Goodwill between the fandoms)

I remember reading that Larson was going to make a movie with Todd Moyer. he made mention of this at the 15th anniversary convention. Why was the movie shelved?
