O.k., this may be a bit out there, but I think it's not as bad as my "What makes Light_Ship Tick" thread, so I hope it's o.k. All of L_S's and WS's posts have been deleted, and from what we can tell it seems Languatron has finally been permanently banned under ANY avatar since he hasn't made any new ones. It seems he finally pushed the Admin too far when he created another clone named "Yahren" who made 70 bumps, causing all of L_S's and WM's threads to take up THREE PAGES over the active threads. The BSG section of scifi.com, while still not totally troll-free, is now a place where the average BSG fan can go and post without such blantant insults as being called a "Universal Executive" even if you're AGAINST the new series, just for disagreeing with L_S (this happened to DVO, she was ANTI-mini, and he STILL called her a UE).

Anyway, now that we have that nuisance out of the way, I was wondering if any TOS fans would be willing to come over and give us some constructive criticism. Don't be to upset if lots of people disagree with you, but they won't be L_S. :)

All of the old timers know well the character in question. He was once a respected member of fandom.
I think skiffy would still be too infused with anti-TOS comments for there to be much civil posting going on there.
Not all of that is deliberate.

I didn't say the problem was solved, but I think this should help minimize it.

The scifi board is way better than it was a year ago. Now it is a true board with instant postings. It is however still filled with some trolls and innocent people who simply seem to be missing something. The quality of the average participant here and at cylon alliance far exceeds what you can find at scifi. If its a slow day at work and noone is posting at the major Battlestar boards and I am done reading the world news I might make it down to scifi once in a long while.

Thomas has a VALID point but not pertaining to Light_Ship. There was a time that any criticism against Moore's show wasn't allowed. The posts never showed up.

Yeah, and why not? I understand that the posts were overwhelmingly negative toward the broadcast that night and all of a sudden they disappeared - regardless of how nice or nasty they were.

Then they allow a known nut-job run rampant until they are inconvenienced by it.

Frankly, I'm glad to see they've gone to a less restrictive structure - but they lost a lot of credibility - with me, anyway - when they so heavily censored the feedback back in December. I suspect most people who were compelled to post then have gone on to friendlier pastures.

I remember several well written posts extolling the virtues of the original over the new during those weeks in December.
Some well written ones got past the mods.

The were so well written that I suspected they had been composed in advance.
Detailed descriptions of minor cast and crew...too much detail for the average fan to just recall and spontaneously post.

Frankly, as a pro-mini poster, some of what I wrote never made it either.

There was a bewildering volume of posts in December 2003 - a virtual ten-fold increase over previous months. I think most of the posts were from genuine users who just came and went. There were however a handful of problem handles who seemed to get their jollies rubbing it in their proverbial opponent's faces. There were about a half-dozen pro-mini posters who bordered on obsessive cases like one gregv2k post listing comments collated from 80 other positive mini-friendly posts! Personally I think the problem-makers are just a minority ahd deserve to be either ignored or laughed at. They aren't representative of anything other than an extreme element.

Many of the other posters are simply people with very strong opinions. And those people occasionally clash with other strong opinions held differently by others.

An example of what I am talking about is that they deleted MUFFIT's posts. She never says anything the slightest bit rude. But they were censoirng her too. Just because she liked the old show and wanted it revived.

Lightship I don't care about.

But there was a long stretch between March and December where they chose discussion on a continuation show were to be deleted. Then the night of the miniseries they began deleting posts that weren't favorable to the new show. They let a few token posts in, but there was large amounts of posts deleted to give the appearance that everyone liked the show.

I would agree that Sci-Fi board has gotten much better. I think the problem was the negativity was beyond providing a different viewpoint but a manifesto of defending TOS. I don't want to rehash the "fandom" wars of the past and most everyone know what I mean.

I have no problem with people watching the show and giving their opinion but all negitive? Clearly they don't like anything about the show, so more on.

Yes, there will be episodes that will be "dogs" and we'll say "what were they thinking?". I enjoy a good discussion of pro's and con's. That is why I really like Colonal Fleet. You guy do a great job of discussion your opinion without being personal or attacking others.

Personally, i believe all the negativity on the skiffy boards stemed from everybody else usual and average, boring, stereotypical negative downwards attitude towards the series. That bought in the smart alec posters who saw it as an open field day to attack and downplay the members of Bboards who defended Galactica. After that battle lines were drawn up and usual cowardly message board trolls rolled in.

Battlestar Galactica had alot of fans when i was growing up, the playful kid on the playground chit chats about what situations would come about if other series crossed over to another Galactica Vs Space 1999 Vs Trek Vs Star Wars. What would you, want to see happen etc. Ah a kid's imagination!

Now all you get, is very cynical attitudes from people who aggressively attack other fans and fandom's love for their interests in whatever form of media entertainment, entertains them!

I guess, we've all been extremely passionate about whatever show/ movie inspires us.

Anyone knows my history, i love to visit sites and gather information on the Battlestar Galactica revival since 1999! although i lurked on siffy i didn't post seeing some of the fighting. However it wasn't until the petition of late 2001 when tempers flaired up a bit, did i get involved not only for personal reasons sorting out a certain accusation against me made on the petition. But i felt it was somewhat ironic being i wanted to chat with fellow posters. It took a while, but i stuck around to make a point. I'm an old school fan who supports this revival, i proved tha to myself let alone the members of the Sci-Fi Channel Bboards. Even though i got caught up in it's B.S. from time to time. i knew i was doing alot of good. By sticking it out.

Whether we had to deal with Lang or the troublemakers trolls Sci-fi had it place. and it was the information hub of the 2001 DeSanto effort and the place to pass regular news.

But times have changed, the heyday of the good and bad times have passed on. It won't ever be the same again. you'll never have the same bunch of freinds and foes on their discussing, talking, fighting (half of it we really didn't need?) joking etc. There is nothing left to prove, say or do. Old friendships are keeping people coming back nothing else?

Until big news for the continuation group comes, something that should come about in many fans and casual posters favor. Fandom isn't really having any kind of moving except for Galactica websites being creative doing the CFF effort letter writing campaigns. I personally do not see skiffy becoming useful right now or better. Until a major official "positive" development happens in many Continuation fans favor from the TPTB through a media announcement or press 'junket' (conference) or news of the TNS ending and something officially becomiing of Battlestar Galactica beyond all of fandom wishes!

The Sci-fi Channel Bboards, have lost people even remotely interested in seeing or hearing if anything what they have to say regarding Galactica. So posting on their boards doesn't interest me anymore. Fandom is moving on with their own efforts and plight, until new news on the future of Larson's Galactica movie rights or the future would-be seasons of TNS Galactica is again the media spotlight.

On a funny note regarding Languatron banning. While i'll don't believe those that stick around have heard the last of Lang, for the time being.

KJ- I think that boards problem is that its never had anyone set down any real rules or standards for posting. Its whoever's will is strongest wins. Or in most cases whoever is the biggest loser without a life wins the argument. Makes for an out of control environment.

Its all Mods. They decide what kind of place it is and steer the conversation. Sometimes a word or two does it. Sometimes you have to come down hard with bans. Its up to the mods.
