SMALLVILLE RETURNS!!!!!

Its now season 4 and we start out with a bang!

Clark appears el natural in cornfield (I'm not looking forward to that, but I bet someone I know will get a thrill!) and is discovered by a very beautiful Lois Lane!!!!

Well actually we get TWO Lois Lanes. Erica Durance plays the beautiful new Lois Lane. But also we will get to see Margot Kidder!!!! She plays the assistant to Christopher Reeves' character, Dr. Virgil Swann. Which is pretty sweet casting! I'm looking forward to seeing later episodes with Kidder and Reeves together! (Reeves isn't in this one).

OH! And remember, Annette O'Toole who plays Martha was the original Lana Lang in the movies. So this really reunites the original movie cast!!!!

btw- here is something I dug up on the Lois Lane character's background. This is what the actresses auditioning for the role were given.

The breakdown describes Lois as "caucasian, smart, beautiful, urban, headstrong, and no-nonsense." It says she was an Army kid who moved around every two years. She lost her mother at a young age and helped to raise her young sister, which made her mature beyond her years.

Her father, Sam Lane, is a "high-ranking general" in the U.S. Army. Lois has no room for small talk or superstition, and she has a long history of defying her father and asserting her independence.

The breakdown says that Sam always wanted a son rather than a daughter and thus raised Lois to be hard as nails, like a perfect soldier. Lois hides her vulnerability with sarcasm and wit... much like her cousin, Chloe.

At this point in her life, Lois is in her early twenties and has no interest in journalism. She's in Smallville to investigate the death of Chloe. (We still don't believe Chloe is dead, so don't worry!)

DAMN. I noticed its on against ABC's LOST.

Meanwhile, Lois Lane (Erica Durance) comes to town to investigate the murder of her cousin Chloe (Allison Mack). Also, Lana (Kristin Kreuk) returns from Paris with a new attitude and a new boyfriend (Jensen Ackles, "Dark Angel"), Jonathan (John Schneider) lies in a coma, and Lionel (John Glover) faces a grim new life in prison. Nobody is interested it seems... But it was a decent episode.

Getting to see Margot Kidder act with Annette O'Toole was wonderful.

Margot Kidder: "I do know what it's like to love someone whose 'calling' is greater than your own."

Annette O'Toole: "Dr. Swann?"

Margot Kidder: "It was a different lifetime ago..."

I had planned on watching the encore Sunday at 11PM. I saw bits of it. Kidder's character having a thing for Dr Swann. Ironic. :D She and Reeves brought two great characters to life in the Superman movies. Probably will not be able to tune in, ie no electricity, no cable. :sigh:

I watched this episode too! I must confess that I fell off of "Smallville" at some point last season and I missed Christopher Reeve's second appearance and the season finale. It's a good thing that they had a prologue sequence at the beginning of this week's episode...!

Margot Kidder looked great! The last time I saw her was the first role after she recovered from her breakdown. She was on the sitcom "Boston Common" and she played a drama instructor who was in an electric wheelchair - she was hysterically funny (no pun intended). I loved the dialogue that Tom pointed out - the feeling was so eerie. It was quite similiar the first time Chris Reeve appeared on "Smallville" and they had a section of John Williams' score playing...

I think that the part where Kal-El (Clark) flew really knocked my socks off! I had heard for the longest time that the producers said we would never see him fly. It was a great job on the part of the SFX team for "Smallville" - it looked as good, or even better than any film version of Superman in flight. Very cool!

It was interesting having a Lois Lane character turn up so early in Clark's life - I know that this series is re-writing history, but they've always done a good job when it comes to the storyline. I'll give it some time and see how this develops.

Can't wait until next week!

Bryan

Note to Tom: Maybe you could create a Superman "S" insignia for the Smallville-related posts, eh?

HUMBUG!

Over here in the UK, Channel 4 have finally started showing season 3, after it was posponed for 6 months because of Big Brother! :rage: And it has been moved into the 15:35 timeslot, so anything deemed too sexy or violent for 10 year old brats is cut out, much to my chagrin! So Christ knows when the Lois Lane episode will finally be shown on free-to-air British telly.
BRG

PS- Channel 4 is really starting to piss me off! They have started showing season 4 of The Weast Wing, OVER A YEAR after it was due to be aired! :wtf: And they have given it the dreaded Friday 19:30-20:30 timeslot, which means that if anything at all happens in the world, Channel 4's 7 o'clock news will over run, and the West Wing will be pulled in favor of an old repeat of Friends! :hack:
An irrate BRG

Well...the show does have its racy moments. The season ender for last season, Kara (superman's cousin in the the comics) appeared on the show walking around in the buff. And in this one, Clark Kent was found in a cornfield in the buff. And then there was a scene where you saw Lana Lang in the shower. Including a loooong held shot of her siloutted against the shower curtain.
