View Full Version : Battlestar Excelsior?

I have just discovered a fan produced Star Trek series entitled Star Trek Hidden Friontier. Clearly a labor of love, these fans have decided to quit carping about Berman and Braga and do something about it. They are literally creating their own series. It is currently in its fifth season! The reason I am posting this here is that there is one episode that Battlestar Galactica fans will get a real charge out of. In the second season, they have produced an episode entitled "Yesterday's Excelsior." This story opens with Stu Phillips's grand Battlestar Galactica theame. The creators have made some fantastic CGI footage of Federation ships that move the same way as the Galactica does in the opening credits of the show. When the opening credits are over. The sweeping fanfare plays as they show the actors co starring in the story. They even use the Galactica fonts for the credits. While the acting can be a bit spotty, I still love this production because it is clear that the fans are making this show to amuse themselves. They are doing it for the simple joy of doing it and it shows. The CGI work is professional quality. It may take some time to down load the episodes but it is definetly worth the wait!

Hi!
The Address for the episodes is www.hiddenfrontier.org/downloads.html
As for my project, life as it often does, gets in the way. I have not been able to work on the chronology in a while. I have gotten up to the magnificent warriors. If you would like to read what I have done so far, let me know and I can send it to you. Your input would be appreciated.

You might also want to check out this site if you enjoy that kind of stuff. They also are tyring to expand the series with fanbased work.

Thanks Thomas for the heads up. I have seen The Starship Exeter episode that they produced earlier this year. It was entitled "The Savage Empire" and was really well done. It wonderfully captured the flavor of the original show. They are currently working on new episodes and I can't wait to see more. It is so impressive to see that fans (who can't make a dime off their efforts) put so much care and love into these productions. I wish that some dedicated Battlestar Galactica fans could get together and make a Galactica fan film. It would be a blast to see some new Galactica footage.

Bijou do you have any links? Or info?

Shiningstar,
The link to the episodes is posted above. I am not sure but I believe this production company is based on the west coast. The CGI is top notch. The people who do it should easily find jobs in Hollywood. I also believe that they extensively use green screen techniques to create virtual sets for the series. I am guessing they somehow captured frames from the captain's chair and Interactive technical manual cd-roms for the backgrounds. Sure, sometimes the acting is amaturish. On occasion, the uniforms don't fit right. Sometimes, the actors are not physically the Hollywood ideal. Who cares? These people have their hearts in the right place. They are living their dreams. Also the writing is rather good. I would rather watch an episode of Hidden Frontier over Voyager any day. But that's just my opinion. Go to the site down load an episode or two and judge for yourself.

It looks like "Hidden Frontier" has finally been discovered. There were so many video down loads that they exceeded their allowance for September and had to turn to mirror sites to distribute the show. I guess this is the mark of success on the web!

Shiningstar,
The BG audio I referred to is part of the Hidden Frontier episode "Yesterday's Excelsior". The Galactica opening music was used to great effect in this episode.

You bet ! If only ! I guess the Second Coming may be the closest we will get. But I understand that Richard also filmed a 30min short BSG film. If he were to release that we could have a proper Continuation episode !!!!!!
Has anyone seen a Brannon or Braga interview where they have discussed these fam made episodes ? It would be interesting to hear their reaction !

At the risk of sounding like an idiot, I have tried to download from this site, and it doesn't work. i follow all the instructions, got bit-torrent as directed, all of it. When I try to watch, it tells me it either can't read the file, or the download may be corrupted.
I am running Windows XP, and have WMP, as well as other similar programs.
Help?

The Hidden Frontiers web site states they have reached their down load limit for September. They indicate that there are mirror sites that make the episodes available. Maybe, (if you haven't already) you should try there. I have never had any problems downloading the episodes. Make sure you have the latest version of Quicktime. Then right click on the episode and hit save as. I hope you can watch the episodes because they are really well made in the spirit of Star Trek.
Good luck!

I have watched the BSG Hidden Frontiers episode. I have pretty impressed that fans did all of that themselves. I was impressed by the Trill ensign, but the others had a slightly Red Dwarf non-serious scifi feel to them. But I must not been seen to knock at as that is not what I mean to do...
It is really great they have done this, and slowly but surely studios might get a kick up the a** that they have to do what the fans want.... Or in this technological day and age people will do it themselves...
GREAT thanks for the link, I am off to download some more !
