Is it one of those "WIFI" sites, like those that are being set up at Starbucks, etc?

Rowan,

This sounds like a venture that has been "rolling out slowly" the last few years. What it amounts to is locating Internet access points at various "hotspots" like cafes, Starbucks, airports, hotels, etc....i.e., places where people congregate. Then, you can 'buy' access for a given price, for example, $5/hr, and "plug in".

It's too expensive to use on a regular basis but, it's convenient and for the person, who might need immediate access to the 'Net, it could fill that need.

It sounds like a internet cafe with a chair with computer, terminal etc attached ........Just like thomas said. I haven't seen a pic of it but I've heard of it. Maybe "THOMAS" can help?

sorry... just got back home. :D

I couldn't talk much cause I only had a small bit of cash. Basically I was down in LA waiting for someone. I was an hour ahead of time. So I was walking around and wandered into a lounge and along the side there were several clusters of chairs. I noticed one guy was typing. So I hoped into another chair. It already had a dollar inserted. But it took a minimum of 3 bucks. So I inserted 2 more and an extra one. That was 16 minutes at 25 cents a minute.

It was a neat experience, but 16 minutes went FAST!

The basic setup was a chair, with a keyboard on a hinge that came across my lap. And a monitor low and to my right.

The colors look a little off. It was an cheap lcd screen. But otherwise it was kinda cool.

:D

I could never use one of those...It would be to expensive for me...lol  kind of reminds me of those old strip bars that the men would put money in and the door would go up and the gal would strip, then in about 30 seconds the door would close and he would have to put more money in......... Only it sounds like you get more time than the dummies in the strip clubs...lol.................ok :/: maybe that was a bad analogy.....
