Hey everyone -
I just finished the first 3 episodes of a series I found called Blue Gender. I rented the first disk to see if I would like it and I DO! The artwork and the animation are excellent - no CGI, 3D (or even 2d), just traditional animation.
Blue Gender Website (http://www.bluegender.com/)
The basic story centers around a young man named Yuji that was diagnosed with a terminal disease and was placed in suspended animation until they found a cure. He was only supposed to be asleep for a few years, but when he awakens 22 years later the world is quite different as it has been overrun by an alien insect species called the "Blue".
The storyline is very intense and very graphic at times (not for kids). The sound quality and music scoring is very good as well and serves to help advance the story. When Yoji is awakened, it is during a recovery mission where the survivors of the planet Earth that have since moved into earth orbiting stations are trying to recover those that are in suspended animation. The best I can liken the series too is a combination of the elements in films "28 Days Later" and "Aliens" - it makes for some interesting viewing to say the least.
I'm going to Netflix.com to put the rest of the series in my rental queue - I can't wait!
Best,
Bryan
