There are very few anime's on the level of Noir. Despite some big flaws, Noirs can be the the kind of experience one rarely gets in movies and TV.

Noir is the story of two young women fighting off waves of hitmen. They are not saints or do-gooders. Mireille is a very professional and reliable assassin. Kirika is a girl who is lost amnesic, her mind is washed clean of all memories. Except she retains the disturbing but incredible abilities to kill.

And like the name, this show has a very black nature to it. Someone is playing a deadly game and have decided to include them in it. The girls have no choice. But at the same time they realize that whoever is playing this game with them, is responsible for events buried deep in their pasts.

Its an incredible story. It has above par animation. And the music fits and uplifts this series like few soundtracks can. Add to that good character design and an attention to detail that even the guns are specifically chosen to match the history of real life models.

Noir isn't perfect. And the flaws will drive many off. First off the first half of this series has about 7 episodes that are pretty much useless to the plot. And they don't drive the story forward. And they aren't that interesting. So if you are impatient, or part of the MTV-CNNH "must have it now" generation, this series is not for you. Noir requires some measure of patience in the beginning.

Also this show was designed to be shown one episode a week. So if you watch multiple episodes together you will notice a large repitition of scenes in flashbacks. And there is some hints of lesbianism and nudity in one episode. And there is some pretty strong battle scenes in a church, so if you are deeply religious this may upset you. And add to that an extremely high body count. Some episodes are filled with massacres. But oddly they don't animate blood here. So people just get shot and die...alot.

But if you can make it to the end. Most people find Noir to be one of the best animes they ever saw. Its definitely on my favorite list.
