Oh those poor artists.

We all know that they would have chosen to render their works in b&w even if color was an option back then.

I understand the purist's objection in these cases, but here it is presented as an option. You can turn the color on and off.

I wonder if anyone is attacking NASA for digitally colorising the photos on their website.

The comment about redoing the Mona Lisa's smile would only make sense if it were mutilating the original, not digitally altering copies.

You have a choice. Neither one is supplanting the other. Infact you get a choice.

My main problem with the Turner colorized movies is that it looked awful. The computers back then could only do a few colors. Mostly earthy tones of brown with some ugly reds, green and blue thrown in. The product was horrible.

If they can do it and make it look perfectly natural, then I would be interested in seeing it. But franky, I don't have a problem with seeing movies in black and white.

I'd like to keep the Three Stooges in B&W. That's is how I like to watch them. I am used to it.

I hear ya there, bro. I remember seeing some of those first efforts with Colorization, and it was BOOFUGLY! They looked even pastier in color than they did in B/W.

I do think that technology has gotten to that point. But on the other hand, can you imagine if they colorized movies like "Raging Bull" or "Young Frankenstein"? Movies that were intentionally made in B/W. ?

I think they need to just leave those old movies alone!!!

And I also think that the analogy to the Mona Lisa should have been that someone wanted a blonde Mona so you can change her hair color or dress color....
