If you want to own your own airplane... but can't fly or well... don't wanna deal with airport crowds....

That is just a crude artist rendering. But the idea is real. Tom Bennington is offering a unique service- he turns old planes into homes.

He has three in progress. The first one should be done in a year.

I remember this! it was on tv last year they did a special thing on it I think it was on weird homes. They showed you the interior and there was no way you could tell you were in a plane it was amazing!

If I had riches the house I would have designed for myself would be the Millenium Falcon built to scale.

What I find baffling about that airplane/house design, is how the structure can remain aloft atop that pedestal column in the center. Looks to me that the house/plane would split in half at the point of the column, from the weight fore and aft of it.

I wonder if they have the furniture delivered to the house the way they load cargo into airplanes, with the same vehicles they use at the airports.

I would make the cockpit my office and make the consoles for my computer and monitor, scanner and printer, ext., and the overhead controls for my CD and DVD sound system.

Likewise for the Falcon idea, I would use the cockpit for my office as well.

I'm pretty certain the plane can support it's weight from the column. The area where the wing is is the normal point for bearing the weight of the plane.

I suppose that section would have to be extremely strong, considering that that engines are pulling the plane along without tearing the wings right off. But still, it still looks precarious to me. And although planes can handle most weather turbulance, in cases of severe storm activity and high winds, the body would not be able to buckle and give as air rushed against it.

BTW, about what I saw regarding John Travolta: Has anyone seen his home? Rather, his property, from above? He has 2 large customized passenger planes on his property, one in front of his house partway on his long driveway, and one plane behind his house, and a road that leads (presumably) to a runway.

I think I'd prefer to have three columns supporting the weight of the plane;
instead of just the middle one. One at the tail sections one in the middle,
and ONE at the from of the plane. I'd feel a bit safer that way. But then
that's just me.

Now that is pretty cool!!! I have always had the thought that if I had the money and riches, I want to design a house that looks like an Egyptian pyramid. Although instead of being all stone and rocks, it would be a little more modern-looking.

The interior central section would be open almost to the top and the corridors and rooms would all be around the edges along the walls with maybe about three or four floors up.

The very top would be an observation room/lounge with a clear glass pyramidion so you could look out the top!!!!

We all loved it. :D

This side is kinda barren, but the other sides are a forest filled with trees with speakers in them. So the trees sing and recite poetry. This side is higher than the rest. The "ground" is actually the roof of the base. Its several stories above ground. The structure on the right is a sun vent. Below is a study area. And the vent makes the area below look like a "light-waterfall"
